Indian media is in hype mode now for everything
I would like them to see this given more publicity and have a dialog about this rather than hype things
India child malnourishment rates worse than Africa

To each one his or her own - but the fact that this lady at such a young age has clarity of what she wants to do and has the guts to do what she wants to do is commendable.
When there is so much to learn at home why go wandering?

I'm surprised that nobody notice the "1-crore" offer. I mean that's like $230k/p.a. !!!! for a fresh out of college graduate. How many of us in our mid-careers get paid that much?
Even Harvard and Wharton MBA grads in their mid-careers would kill for that kind of salary! and here's a 25 yr old IIM grad rejecting an offer like that and we're all in awe!
I think this whole news (or atleast the salary figure offered by GS) is bogus. I can't believe that GS would be stupid enough to offer 1-cr to someone who has no experience.

I don't doubt that figure. Average income for GS employees exceeds $500K and the calculation of the average also includes secretaries who are clearly not making anywhere close to this average. This shows how much the associates and partners must be making. GS is known to be the best paymaster among already the best paying industry, investment banking. Moreover, the article mentions she worked as a summer intern in the New York office. Most Wharton and Harvard MBAs would kill for even an internship at GS because that is the ticket for a potential job offer. She could have done very well there as an intern and subsequently, an offer would have followed.
Instead of doubting the offer figure, let us at least acknowledge this woman has a lot of passion for carnatic music and considers this above a high paying GS job, which would mean slogging away for 80+ hours/week with no time to pursue her true passion.

Tangential arguement. If you bothered to read the article you would find that the talk about the malnutrition rate being higher depite the GDP growth and the overall properity.
My r2i'ing or not does not change that.
The point I am trying to make is that the Indian media is getting more and more like the US media in hyping and dwelling on things. Anna Nicole Smith for this week. If the media had this level of scrutiny in 2002-3 leading up the the Iraq war, we would not be there, for instance.
