Filing US taxes from India

Post by samplespace »

To the best of my knowledge, the 1040NR series of forms cannot be e-filed. The year in which you R2Ied, you may either file as a US resident (1040), in which case you can e-file. But if you file a dual status return, you would have to paper file them. You might want to have a look at IRS Pub 519 for details.

Disclaimer: I am not a tax expert. I have never used e-filing software. I do my returns myself.

I don't think 1040NR applies to USCs - as in the case of OP.
