Hello,
As a green card holder, I have been filing Form-1040 till 2009. I am voluntarily surrendering my green card this week. Should/Can I file Form 1040-NR(Non-resident alien) for year 2010 along with Form-8854(expatriate filing)?
Thank You.

Form 1040 NR after surrendering green card
Hi swatch,
During the year in which you submit the green card, you need to file the dual status return with the IRS. If you have submitted your greencard in 2011, then you will file the 2011 returns as dual status i.e
1) Filing normal 1040 return till the date of surrender of green card and reporting global income.
2) Form 1040 NR from the date of surrender of green card till the end of the year, reporting only the US source income for that period.
3) Reporting your Net Worth.
