Getting a job in Europe from US

Post by Ranger13 »

Hello,

From what little research I did it appears you would need a job offer before you can apply for work permit in all EU countries.

I am wondering if someone can share their experience or knowledge on obtaining a Work permit in any EU country (not UK) from US or India. This is for an US educated Indian citizen living in US for longtime without GC.

I am aware of doing an internal transfer from US to Europe in the same job. I am interested in a situation where it is not possible.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ranger

Yes you would need a job offer before you can get the visa. The only possible route u can come to work is through skilled workers category or the Intra company transfer.

For the skilled caterogry check the below link and if you qualify you can apply straightway...mind you these rules r changing often so better keep any eye on it....

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/tier2/

In the above link click the Tier 2 General category and see how you fare reg. the points.

Hope this helps

Ranger13 is asking for EU country (not UK). HSMP is valid only in UK.

Yes..I am aware of the HSMP and the one before it and now some kind of new process. However UK would be my last choice in Europe. My main reason for coming to Europe is to travel around and see/experience different things. I suppose UK would defeat that purpose. I am actually planning to leave to India but thinking of a 2 year detour in EU just so I can experience the world little more than I can on a short vacation and pay for it while I am at it.

If you live anywhere other than UK, you will have problem with the language. I have some friends who live in Germany, they had to learn German to survive in the workplace. It is not difficult to travel from UK with the Channel tunnel and ferries. Plus you can watch live cricket matches. I would love to get a job in UK and live there for few years but it is so hard at this age to move out of sunny Calif to a cloudy island.
