OCI Approved but not stamped?

Post by okonomi »

It is not legitimate for a foreign consulate to hold a US citizen's passport for an inordinate amount of time for whatever reason. You can complain to our state department and/or the police. The consulate can either stamp the visa and return the USCitizen's passport or deny it and return it within a reasonable amount of time. Check it out with the US state department as to what your options are.

OCI Approved but not stamped?

Post by sammy123 »

Just wanted to provide an update in case it may help anyone.

After about 50 calls or so i gave up and came to India and used the existing visitor visa for the kid and i started sending mails each week stating mail 1 week 1, mail2 week2, etc after my 5th mail i get a reply stating 'pl. send your passport for stamping and we have your approval documents here ".

I alone will be leaving april to DC and take my child US PP and send it for OCI stamping and then come back in May and we all will gotogether for a couple months before our perennial return back to India.

I hope i'm not creating an offense or breaking the law taking my kid passport with me while the kid is in India

Please let me know if you were able to stamp your child's passport with the OCI stamp while he/she was in India.
I will be facing the same problem as we have applied for OCI at Houston but need to go to India for the next 4-5 months. Please let me know your experience and if you were asked any questions about the passport.

I did not do it. We'll be sending the passport only after my kid comes here.

Not sure if this may help anyone but just providing update.

Indian embassy has been calling me and asking for the passport and that they have the approved oci card for a long time. I told them we'd be sending it around memorial day weekend as wife and kids are returning then.
