Search for the wackiest blind belief

Post by GutsyGibbon »

My vote goes to avoiding the sight of moon on Ganesh chaturthi. I setup a telescope for moon viewing with beer, snacks, & dinner. None of my friends accept this party invite, dont know why :)) Ever seen grown ups closing the eyes of infants to stop them from accidentally looking at the moon. They may forget the infant seatbelt, but will save them from the sight of the evil moon.

I would also like to request believers to try breaking one rule every year and see what can go wrong. Like seeing the moon on Ganesh Chaturthi.

What else is wacky?

As a new mom, I didn't take pictures of my baby when it was asleep, as that is considered inauspicious. I could have used those pictures as hope and assurance that this too shall pass when it was wide awake and very colicky. :)

About breaking one rule every year, I broke one rule that we celebrate every year. :) Got married on a Saturday that suited us, at a time that suited many who had to drive a long distance, including aadarniya Panditji. :)

(aadarniya = respected).

Perhaps they didn't know the appropriate remedy. :) There is always a remedy.

http://www.priyadarshan.org/dont-see-moon-ganesh-chaturthi-night-160.html
It is said that anyone who looks at the moon on the night of the Ganesh Chaturthi will be falsely accused. If someone inadvertently sees the moon on this night, he may remedy the situation by listening to (or reciting) the story of the Syamantaka jewel found in the Puranas.
Now, don't ask us how that is a remedy! :)

P.S.: It has to be an inadvertent viewing. Don't know if this remedy will help you though.

Aiyo! I hope admins won't merge the threads. That old thread had way too much of explanations about the reason for the beliefs and too much of ponderings on womanly matters of a monthly nature for my taste. Maybe we can stick to this thread's stated purpose:

GutsyGibbon;365198 ...
1. I would also like to request believers to try breaking one rule every year and see what can go wrong.
...
2. What else is wacky?

I will pray as I do homa in my kitchen - namely, the holy ritual of cooking dinner. :) Will heat the oil on high heat for added measure.

I'd have to say that any one person's wackiest blind belief is that man evolved from a monkey!

I mean, even if it were true and if it took like say, half a million years or so to happen, the maximum lifespan of a human being is what? 110 or 115 years? And if he/she hasn't seen it happen within that period in time, isn't that the blindest of blind beliefs? :))
