Kitchen corner help desk

thanks mv, chakra and ana. Yes, we do have the cooktop on the island. I just uncover the purdah aka AL foil, when friends are visiting (to impress them :p) Will try Windex the next time. I would rather do something else than clean. But if someone is visiting or am hosting a party, or just get mad ...

Gift of gab and desis, desi kids

MV, what a great question! I always think about it, since at times I am tongue-tied, while at times I think about the rejoinder later. There are times I can make small talk but at times I find it hard pressed since the cultures we grew up in are so different. When asked about what was the 1st ...

Kitchen corner help desk

I have lined with AL foil, did not know they were a fire hazard. Oops! Will try to google about it. If anyone knows more about it, pls let me know. My pet peeve is cleaning the cooktop. No matter what cleaning liquid/powder I use, it does not take the grease marks out. I find seasoning the hot oil ...

Future of social networking

I agree with RRK, since I have mixed feelings too. I am for technology but think Twittering about every boring detail, trying to account for every silliest event is way too much. Imagine how people must have felt about telephones when they were invented! Some naysayers must have thought that it ...

Why do we eat a minimal amount of vegetables ?

mn_op : You are right. Balanced diet in right proportion is important. Proteins are building blocks, and meat is only one form of protein. But if you mix the right kind of food, which mostly all of us do, you still end up getting complete protein. ie. Eat dal/beans with rotis and/or rice, eating ...

Why do we eat a minimal amount of vegetables ?

Thanks mn-op. I am not against non-veg. Each to his own beliefs. I just wanted to make it clear that if you are veg., you can still get all the nutrition. Whether veg/no-veg, you can still be deficient, if you do not take care. eg. Just eat meat and think french fries is all that you need everyday!

Why do we eat a minimal amount of vegetables ?

Earlier in India, since poverty was rampant (British-rule era), low weight meant malnourishment. So plump/overweight ppl were considered prosperous and indicated well-being and favored by the society. Now, an average Indian may have a sedentary lifestyle, eat greasy/sweet foods/unbalanced diet, and ...

Why do we eat a minimal amount of vegetables ?

[QUOTE=sumachechi;266509]Kirks seems to have it worked out well. A minimum of 5 servings of different vegetables/ fruits is the dietary recommendation to ensure you get reasonable intake of vitamins/antioxidants. Remember dhals/dried peas/channa also count. I also ensure that I eat the same everyday ...
