HELP: AY 17-18 refund for NRIs getting denied due to foreign address

[QUOTE=dwadke;684859]In the link that you posted, one of the items that "Other" refers to is the fact that a refund cheque cannot be dispatched to a foreign address because the Income Tax Department only used to pay for postage in India. However, now they only send refunds electronically so this ...

HELP: AY 17-18 refund for NRIs getting denied due to foreign address

This is right. Getting a notice of "refund rejected" does not mean actual rejection posted to our records. So you give about a week and check back in IT portal. You should now see "reissue refund" option available and at that time update your records per "short cut solution" specified above and then ...

HELP: AY 17-18 refund for NRIs getting denied due to foreign address

[QUOTE=dwadke;683688]I had the exact same issue for AY 2018-19. Instead of taking a shortcut and supplying false information, I decided to do some social service and solve this for the entire community once and for all, even though my own refund would be delayed due to this. I filed a grievance ...

USC - Transferring INR to USD

If you are indian citizen (holding Indian passport) then I think you can use Liberalized Transfer very easily. I believe that money transfer can be done online with many banks. I think LRS (Liberalized Remittance Scheme) needs very little to none paperwork. I do not recall LRS limit but it is ...

Schedule AL - Asset and Liabilities Details

It is true that ITR-2 now has schedule AL for this. I agree security is an issue but I do not see any alternative. You have to furnish those details.

Transfer Rupee from NRE to USA bank - best way to get good exchange rate?

@venkat786, I do not know enough about tax to comment but I think transfer of money from NRE to US bank account is not a taxable event. So, I am not sure there is any tax benefit to be availed due to transfer itself. Again, I am not a CA - just what I have understood so far.

Is my 401K Gains on Investment, not withdrawn, Taxable in India ?

May be I am misunderstanding the whole question - but this seems to be a question related to "paper gain/loss" and not "realized gain/loss". Paper gains are not taxable - only realized gains are. Meaning, you took money out of 401k. Only if you take money out, will taxes be due.

HELP: AY 17-18 refund for NRIs getting denied due to foreign address

@Kay_S: Good news is my friend got the refund in his NRO account electronically once he gave the indian address. So, the indian address is just for paper work to issue the refund it seems. I advised my friend to change the portal address back to his US address once the refund was received. So, just ...
