Early retirement in India?
Yikes!!! I'm not into hating anybody. All I'm saying is I don't want to jeopardize my hard-earned savings that I have gotten with my blood/sweat/tears just so that some other women too can live off it without having to work and without contributing anything to it. Doesn't make me a woman hater ...

Early retirement in India?
Thanks for the post katobhuti, very amazing about your uncle. You are absolutely right - a single guy past 35 and especially past 40 is looked upon as some kind of freak in Indian society. I'm not in principle opposed to getting married if I find the right person. It's just that I don't think it ...

Retire to Dehradun for family of three with a Rs 4 crore corpus
Good for you dda. I love your plan and hope it all works out. I'm planning to do something similar eventually, just not with a wife/kids.

Early retirement in India?
[QUOTE=dcnri2india;390020] One observation for you though... You do not want to slog for money but are clearly concerned by the impact money (or lack of it) will have on your life. As a law of nature you will have to compete with other peoples for resources. This is a price you have to pay to live ...

R2I Dilemma - Is wait for GC any worth?
Trueindian, Are you aware that once you get a GC, you're not home free yet. You will have to spend some minimum months per year in US to maintain your GC. If you spend extended time away from US, and immigration officer notices that at port of entry, they can cancel your GC. Do you think you will be ...

Islamic terrorism: A factor in your R2I plans..
To OP: Yes it is a factor. Lets leave aside for a moment Islamic terrorism, thats bad enough but how about reservations for Muslims in educational institutes and govt jobs? It has already started in some states and once it starts, you know where its headed. Consider this entirely possible scenario ...

Teaching is a great idea! Low stress but not necessarily low status. And where else do you get ~2 month vacation per year? Also dont need to worry about economic downturns, layoffs, etc.

Over half of Indian IT professionals may return to India ? Survey
80% of people who say they want to return to India someday are bullsh**tng. Unless they mean "I want to return to India after I get my US citizenship" ....that is a different issue. Those who really want to return to India don't make a drama out of it.....one fine day they announce they're moving ...

Early retirement in India?
Goldieg, Thanks. I have decided I don't want to slave away at a job for 60 hrs a week, 50 weeks a year until I am 60 or 65, just for the sake of mortgage payment or kids college or wife's status perception or whatever. Although probably the majority of other middle class desis will be happy to keep ...
