Is it worth shipping my computer to India?
oh, that's sweet ... now I should pull my Dell box out of storage ... I was defering that all this while thinking that I will have to figure something about the power supply... however, the way labor at the customs shed handled those boxes I am wondering whether it's gonna see light of day :-)

Is it worth shipping my computer to India?
I recently checked 19"... the diff was like 15-20% (higher here). If you are shipping one computer in the shipment putting the LCD along with it would most likely get considered as part of your 'computer' by customs. Also, all LCDs are by default 110/220V compatible .. so if you have one get it along.

Is it worth shipping my computer to India?
Also you could consider the option of getting the power supply replaced with a 220V one from the local dealer... this is if you have a really good machine not worth leaving back there... otherwise just come here and buy. You are entitled to ship one computer in the container if you are doing a TR ...

How do you stay professionally motivated?
Excellent points Neesha, Tarun, Nand... DBN, going further along the same line ... do you really want to work? Do you look forward to your current profession as your primary domain of influence and achievement in life? Or, like a friend of mine once put it, 'would you rather look at work as a means ...

IT Professionalism In Consulting
Interesting thread! Clearly, the problem of low accountability and lack of professionalism is not merely in the IT industry ... it is all over the system ... 'bartan-wali bai', 'tailor', 'builder'... you name it! For something so systemic and well-ingrained into the culture I feel that we R2Iers ...

Selection of TV - Plasma or LCD ? Part I
boleboom - If you are going for higher end+large size (42/50/etc.) then the price difference between US and here is substantial. For 32/37 you should have someone check with local dealers in your target destination ... you will most likely find that taking duty, transportation, insurance, 110->220 ...

MT: 110V / 220V ? electronics and appliances
ChaloIndia - Instead of a treadmill, I would recommend getting a good quality elliptical from the US (eg, the Ironman from Costco). Ellipticals require only powering up the console (and thus only have a DC adapter input). Treadmills on the other hand have an AC motor and are, in general (if you just ...

How to Kill Time in Seattle?
It really depends on what you like to do... Seattle area is very beautiful and scenic and it is at its best in Summer (which is only a few weeks :-)). So you can do loads of outdoor activities... hiking, bike riding, general sight-seeing, etc. Also, if you have GC/USC, Vancouver BC is only 3 hrs up ...

MT: 110V / 220V ? electronics and appliances
Most 'naturally' mobile equipment have adapters that are 110-240V, 50-60Hz compatible. All you will need is a India-plug to US-plug converter (under Rs 50). Don't bother to buy that here .. nowadays even the nukkad 'paan' shop will carry it in your neighborhood in India ...
