My User CP does have the "show Avataars" option checked. I do not see any images/Avataars but only see blank doc like insignias with a cross on ...

Would someone be so kind as to explain, how I should go about seeing the images with each thread? All I see are blanks instead of images/icons. I looked up under edit options and Image code is on according to it. It is quite irritating to see those blanks with crosses on them. Thanks in advance ...
