My son is seriously considering SJSU CS over UIUC CS. He talked to few UIUC CS students and they recommended SJSU for CS undergraduate due to proximity of SV and availability of local internships. Yes, SJSU cost is lower due to savings in lodging/boarding, also the fees is lesser than the UCs. UIUC is ranked higher, but high cost and weather/remote place etc. I heard that SJSU is the best place to get top internships in bay area, so the dilemma.

DS has to decide between San Jose State vs. UC Santa Cruz vs. UIUC, all computer science, but the fees vary a lot, San Jose state is around 15K, UC around 35K and UIUC is 55k. Any suggestions?

My DS (#1) is also waiting for decisions. He got acceptance from UIUC for computer science + statistics dual major program. It is expensive to attend this program as out of state student, so not sure if it's worth. With the bay area salary, we wont get any financial aid.

I will post my current expense details, it has been around same range for last year. We do have few paid child care activities, but you are right they are limited to one or two per kid. local vacations are covered by credit card signup miles bonuses.
