The only option is to keep distance! Talk to your husband about getting your MIL back to India! or at least a separate house!

Advice needed to handle Huge medical bill

If all else fails, talk to an attorney and file bankruptcy. It will screw up the credit history, but they can rebuild their life. I know one person (white guy) who did this, but he didn't have any other option. 7 years later, he's fine and his credit history is back.....

hope this helps.

Impact of falling interest rates and rising inflation on Bond investments in India

The best way to handle inflows & inflation is to let the rupee appreciate. RBI might go in for that. 87+% of India's GDP is not reliant on exports. So, Reddy might take that gamble....

Predictions for 2008

#11, several good insights...

btw, why do you expect $ to appreciate again the INR? The general consensus is that it will continue to fall, esp against asian currencies (incl INR). The inflation & low interest rates in US certainly will not help shore up the $.

Predictions for 2008

I would think the ground level inflation (not the govt numbers) are 10+% in US and 15+% in India. The amount of new currency introduced into circulation last year was 23% in India and ~16% in US. Brazil M3 +17.0% Canada M3 +12.9% China M2 +18.5% Euro zone M3 +12.3% Hong Kong M3 +31.5% India M3 +21.5 ...

Arguments with Spouse / Anger control

Desi,

"eliminate your hot buttons....don't trigger hers". In the end you are no longer yourself. You are living a lie. If you have to make so many compromise just so you can keep the other 50%? Just break free, give up the 50% in family court and walk away....

Arguments with Spouse / Anger control

Interesting topic.....I think, if either party needs to make too many adjustments (that they are no longer their former selves), then no point in keeping that relationship. Both should be free to be themselves. That said, in many traditional Indian families, the women make a lot of sacrifice, give ...

What is wrong with labor rate arbitrage?

It is to do with the local cost of living. How much do you spend on rent in India? How much did you spend in US? At the end of the day, most people who R2I feel they can save more and have a better quality of life in India. That said, the cost difference is what drives businesses. Indian IT salaries ...

Power generator for the entire house

The preferred solution seems to be an "inverter". For US folks, inverter is like an UPS but there is a "trip" between the time the power goes off and the inverter kicks in. Typical house would require 1-2KVA and based on the number & type of batteries, you can get anywhere from 4-24 hours of backup ...
