I saw the second standard deviation mentioned here so just wanted to make a comment. The assumption here is that it follows the normal distribution. But real world does not follow normal distribution. There will always be fat tails. Many hedge funds went bust because of these fat tails.

I don't know your job situation but here is what I will do if I were in your situation. Get into consulting and work around 8 to 9 months a year in US and spend the rest 3 to 4 months in India until you become eligible for USC. Your kid will stay close to Indian roots and you get USC.
