Best US city to live
Have been considering this for a while as I also happen to live in a cold -mostly caucasian town. I have also visited a few places in this search. I am curious why Houston is not even mentioned in this thread - Its big, diverse with a sizeable Indian content, totally affordable and good ...

My R2I dilemma: Am I taking too much of a risk?
[FONT=Times New Roman][SIZE=3]As everyone on this post, my thoughts are somewhat different on this. My belief is that while career remains important throughout one?s life, its significance at some level does start diminishing as you get into the middle age (around 40 ?give/take a few) Decisions have ...

I may be missing something here, but I see only US states. I tried a couple of links from your link but I still could not find foreign institutions. Is this the right link?
Thanks

Planning for kids education, 529 plan, Coverdall ESA
I am not finding 529 plans to be attractive. Especially beacsue I view this world as very dynamic and education will not be confined to the boundaries of a particular country. For instance- if your child decides to go to Oxford or Sorbonne (point being if they decide to study elsewhere) 529 is not ...

Active Vs Passive Portfolio Management
Check out this paper on active/passive. He has thrown some science into it. Ideally this /variation of this theme is what I find myself more inclined to believe in. As a quick sidebar, what is the benchmark used for expense ration ( is it the Vanguard S&P 500 at 0.18%/year?) I am seeing E trade ...

What is the typical turnover in the SP500? My finance person from Smith Barney told me that it is typically 15 to 20% meaning evevry stock by and large has a life of 5 to 6 years? Does this seem right?

Is equity investment safer over long term ?
Desi thanks for your analysis. I do not argue the fact that it is hard to predict the "drop" but my rejoinder is that the recovery does not take that long. You example of Nasdaq in '00 is not a good one because as we all know market was grossy irrational at that time. I am not advocating straying ...

Is equity investment safer over long term ?
#131 I think that Benjaim Graham's "Mr Market" still exists and he is inconsistent as well as moody. But he is not totally irrational . Point is inefficiencies in market will decrease and it will be more difficult to make money. Again- the "cycle" of up and down is much smaller . All I mean by ...

Is equity investment safer over long term ?
Desi I undersatnd this. Refer to my latest post as well since I think the market dynamics is being changed. The Dow/Nasdaq drop crica 09/11 is mostkt because the market was irrational. They deviated far away from fundamentals of the factthat cash is still the king. People have wisened up now and I ...
