Looks like no more PIO cards...GOI has stopped issuing PIO cards to streamline the process..of merging PIO and OCI..

UID is ment for Indian Citizens only. But the catch is eventually UId may be required for everything like opening Bank Acct to paying your property taxes. Not there yet...but it will get there ...just like Social Security Number. So every R2I need to be aware of it. So far no foreigner can get it ...

Are the consulates still issuing PIO cards? Few months back Indian Govt. had said they will merge the PIO card with OCI and PIo cards will be done away with.

Well, yes....it might take some time to implement it. But it might save lots of trouble for people already with PIO cards and thinking of an OCI. They need not have to do anything ....as it's the OCI card now ...as there is no difference. Or for that matter having disscussion about PIO and OCI and ...
