MT: US Tax on Employee Stock Options & ESPPs
Hi, I was granted ESOPs in 2005 when I was a resident of California. I subsequently moved to India in 2008. I sold some of these ESOPs (which vested in 2007), are these taxable by CA also? If I sell stocks which vest after 2008, I suppose they will be taxable in India right but not in US? thanks ...

Question on W8-BEN, W8-ECI Filling
I found: http://www.irs.gov/publications/p519/ch04.html#en_US_publink1000222320 which talks about how to assess effectively connected income, but not sure I understand it. In 1040NR it implied that if you have got 1099-DIV then its effectively connected income. Is that incorrect ? If W8 ...

Question on W8-BEN, W8-ECI Filling
Hi, Couldn't find an exact thread for this so using this. Why are Dividends considered NEC (not effectively connected income)? If they are not, then it will be taxed at graudated rate rather than 25% right? Also, a question on ESOP. Are the gains from ESOP (reported on W2) taxable by the state for ...

Small # of R2Is in Mumbai - Mumbai Job Search
I agree with the opportunities in Mumbai in IT. I am from the networking and telecom sector and there are very few opportunities in that area in Mumbai in senior positions. I am considering moving to Bangalore initially and then once there, look at opportunities in mumbai/Pune.

US Tax on IRA/401(k)/Pension Withdrawal by NRA
Thanks Bobus for the prompt reply. 1. If you withdraw a partial amount from IRA/401K , how do you determine what is earnings and what contribution? Could you choose to withdraw all earnings before contribution? This would be useful to NRA so they could withdraw earnings while they are ...

US Tax on IRA/401(k)/Pension Withdrawal by NRA
Hi, I read somewhere that NRA are not allowed to convert traditional to Roth, if so, then pls ignore the 3rd point. If allowed, then there may be additional benefit in converting. For eg. if 50K in the 200K is earnings, then when withdrawing from IRA one would have to pay 30% tax (+ penalty). The 30 ...

Is ROTH IRA advisable for R2Iiers?
Hi Bobus, In one of the previous posts you say, one should consider selling all investments and buying again to adjust cost basis for ROR period. However is that really necessary? Wouldn't the price on the last day of RNOR automatically become the cost basis without selling and repurchading those ...
