Raising kids in India eliminates possibility of foreign Bahu(DIL) or foreign damad(SIL) :D

Any idea if a sewing machine bought in US can work in India using step down transformer?
I heard that any equipment with motor has issues even with step down, something to do with AC frequency (50Hz Vs 60Hz)
