dhindia, What is your target allocation? Look at all your accounts in totality and don't hold bond funds in taxable account as they generate dividend income. Bonds are good in tax-deferred accounts - 401K, IRA etc. If you are planning to invest 8K in taxable account, I would suggest buy VTSMX or ...

The contributions to 401K is nothing but DCA. You gets salary twice a month
(once every 2 weeks) and out into 401K.
