HI
Finally the shipment day is tommorrow. I am using 21st Century for my shipping to PUne. I am doing a LCL shipping ( door to door ). I will update the forum about my shipping experiences. This forum has been very helpful to me and hopefully the experiences i post will help somebody in future.
I am not shipping any big stuff. I have sold my sofa loveseat, bed, mattresses etc( thank you craigslist ). I figured that i will buy the new stuff in india ( which will probably be better suited for indian apartments )
i have some collapsible furniture which i have taken apart and will ship to india. I am not carrying any TV from here. I am carrying toys, books , kitchen utensils etc.

update on shipping
the local movers were here yesterday. there were 3 of them and came around 10 am in the morning. I had packed some of my stuff like books in boxes but had not sealed the boxes ( the shippers need to inspect and list the contenst for insurance ). It took them around 5 hrs to pack everything and load it into the truck. for all the furniture items they wrapped it in bubble warp . All the boxes were marked with marker pens with the contents inside the box.
For dinnerware they took extra care and put a lot of paper packing around it. They took all the clothes from the wardrobe and put it in big boxes. The only thing they did not pack were any aerosol containers like shaving cream since they can cause fires.
when all the packing was done they marked the box with a serial number tag and then listed the tag number and the contents on a form of which i got a copy before they left. i also needed to sign the bill of lading when they departed.
i also got a phone call from local company shipping supervisor and from yogesh of 21st century relocators asking me how the packing is going. I could not find out the volume of my packed stuff since the local movers said they just packed the stuff and deliver it to the warehouse. i will know the volume on monday.
Until now i am happy with the way things have gone. will update my experiences with customs and experiences in india after the stuff reaches there.
now i am off to cleaning the house and then finally giving the keys of townhome to the rental office in this week. saying goodbye to US and friends over here. i came here for education and the years just went by.i like this country very much and for last 14 years i had some great experiences over here.I will miss the goodness and graciousness of majority of people over here . I am going to miss beautiful days like today where spring is in the air and everything feels so wonderful.will miss my UC bearcats, foottball in fall but in my heart i always wanted to go back( same for my wife) and after the birth of my son it just felt the right time to go back.

Thanks bearcat for penning down your shipping experience. you mentioned there were no big ticket items - please indicate the container space you hired and its price. that'll help.
Also, looking forward to your experience on the other end (Pune).
