USA : 1099-INT :: India : ?

Post by kallu »

Hello everyone,

Sorry if my query sounds very basic but I have never filed taxes in India before.

I R2Ied last year and closed my NRO/NRE savings accounts/FDs after coming back and opened resident accounts as none of the banks were able to convert the NR accounts to resident accounts.

For some of the closed accounts, I do not have access to all the statements or online banking anymore.

1. How do I find the total amount of interest that has been payed by the bank in a given FY in the savings accounts/FDs that have been closed now?

2. Same question for resident accounts. I suppose I could look at my statements and add up all the INTEREST fields in the statements but is there an easier way?

Is there a document corresponding to the 1099-INT?

Thanks.

Hi, are you trying to find out the interest in those NRE accounts for your US tax reporting (FBAR etc.)?

Hi Abhi74,

You can ask for Form 16 A or if you have a physical passbook get it filled from the bank. Core banking system is installed in all banks now and you can have an online access to your account, provided you have made the request to them.

We provide both US and India tax filings services from Pune, you can email us you detailed query on [email protected] or visit us at www.kkassociate.com

If you have a PAN card, you can also look up interest paid and taxes deducted at source on the Indian income tax site. If not, you can go to your bank sites and ask for form 16A which will show that. The bank should have form.

My guess is that form 16a will NOT show all interest paid only those interests on which TDS has been deducted. Can someone confirm this. Thanks.
