Updates to CoC and General Guidelines

This thread will be used to discuss changes/revisions to CoC. Our current CoC needs to be updated in the new forum based on the vB features and tools that are available to admins.

For e.g., we can now modify the thread titles. We need to include in the CoC that admins reserve the right to modify thread titles and update thread titles at any time.

Secondly, we can now close a thread so that no more posting is allowed.

Can one use any image for their signature or avatar?

Here is the COC Let us start making changes:

Welcome to R2ICLUBFORUMS - an online community with a purpose. The purpose of this online meeting place is to foster interaction and civilized discussions of topics of interest that make us think, laugh, brood, plan and act. Anything goes, as long as it adheres to the R2ICLUB Code Of Conduct [COC].

The Admin Team of R2ICLUB maintains a vigilant watch to make sure that this code of conduct is being followed by one and all. Our intention is not to take away your freedom of expression. It happens to be the only sensible way to keep the discussions meaningful, focused and useful.

Here is some general Netiquette that we expect:

Remember to be good Netizens.
Respect other people's time and bandwidth
Make yourself look good online, watch your language
Share expert knowledge
Help keep flame wars under control
Respect other people's privacy
Don't abuse your power
Be forgiving of other people's mistakes
Be Polite to your co-members
Above all be considerate of the feelings of fellow members.
Some points taken from http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html

THE R2ICLUB CODE OF CONDUCT [COC]
• Posts with explicit sexual content (links, pictures, dating services, etc) will be deleted and the member will be banned without any warning.
  • Posts that are spam (same post unnecessarily posted in multiple threads) may be deleted and member may be banned without any warning.
  • Posts that contain offensive, provocative, Graphically violent pictures or pictures of an adult nature will be deleted. Posts containing links to such will also be deleted.
  • Posts containing foul language and words will be deleted (admin judgment final for appropriateness whether in context or not or acceptable colloquial use).
  • Posts and threads that discuss sex related topics may be deleted at the discretion of The Admin Team - such posts in general are discouraged on this forum.
  • If a post is in a language other than English, the post may be considered for deletion. A few lines in another language are acceptable, provided an English translation is included in the message.
  • Any post that is an egregious (blatantly offensive) personal attack on a member may be deleted. TAT judgment will be final.
  • Any post ridiculing a member's handle / ID may be deleted.
  • Any member ID that mimics any admin ID or mimics the forum name will be disallowed and the member given 24 hours to change the ID.
  • Posts focussing on forum members, rather than the content of their posts, are discouraged and may be deleted.
  • Any post that is an egregious - blatantly offensive, repetitive and sustained - attack on religion, ethnic groups of people, races etc may be deleted
  • The Admin Team may delete or close at its discretion, any thread of controversial nature that starts to degenerate or has many violating and / or offending posts.
  • Handles or IDs that are deemed blatantly offensive or derogatory will be deleted. A request in the MT:Members Reporting Violations (MRV Thread) may be posted requesting the member to change their offending ID within 24 hours, a non-compliance to which will result in the member_ID being banned.
  • Posts or threads that are deemed as offensive, inflammatory or disruptive as judged by The Admin Team may be deleted.
  • Admin may delete posts that are viewed as deliberate attempt to disrupt the flow of discussion or are off-topic. (example: posts that carry-over disagreements from other threads; deliberate attempt at turning a serious discussion into jokes/humor; deliberately diverting threads towards controversial topics such as religion, language, north-south debate, etc.)
  • Any post whose format is deemed very distracting, such as a post unnecessarily in capital letters or other distractive formats or graphics may be deleted at admin discretion.
  • New threads started with just a link to some website with no or little commentary will be considered for deletion. Likewise, members resurrecting old threads repeatedly and unnecessarily with no new addition but obscure links posted to bump thread up may be warned to cease and desist.
  • Multiple post deletions and / or violations will be sufficient cause to ban the member. All prior posts of the banned member may be deleted from the boards (includes all posts in General / R2I and Non-R2I Stuff message boards).
  • In general admin discourages the use of multiple IDs by same member. If admin identifies a member with multiple IDs who is contributing to the same thread with multiple IDs. the admin will expose that ID and may consider deleting it depending upon the obfuscation created by the multiple IDs.
  • Members may post their comment on admin actions in the AMC thread. However prolonged debate (i.e., repeated/multiple posts) on any specific admin action diverts the attention of members from the real discussions, and hence is discouraged. Posts/debates on admin actions may be deleted or stopped
ACCEPTABLE POSTS:

Personal opinions on political parties, countries, public personalities etc will be allowed. Posts with sustained repetitive attacks or blatantly offensive or inflammatory may be considered for deletion (sustained, repetitive attacks are what will be viewed as egregious). Any attack / opinion must still be a civil voicing of opinion or a civil debate.

Dissent of any type in a civil manner is acceptable. Opinions against races, religions, countries, ethnicities when posted in a civil manner are acceptable. The key determinant here is that it is viewed as an opinion and not as an egregious attack. This determination can be subjective. The Admin Team judgment will be final.

    NOTES:

The admin will make decisions that sometimes in the eyes of some may be seen as wrong. This will include sometimes banning and deletions that some members may not agree with.

Likewise, some members may not agree with what admin will allow sometimes. What is acceptable and what is not are often judgment calls and not always popular decisions. We are Human and our decisions may sometimes either seem or be inconsitent no matter how hard we try to be consistent. It is not intentional.

The admins do not monitor this board 24x7 and hence will often miss some violations. Members are encouraged to notify in MT:Members Reporting Violations (MRV) thread of such violations. If admin in their judgment feel a banning or a deletion is warranted, it will be so executed.

This Code of Conduct is subject to updates and any time an update is made, a message to the effect will be posted in Admin-Member Communications Thread. Members are expected to review and keep up with the policies of the board/forum

For most actions, no admin acts unilaterally. Most decisions taken by the admin team are collective. Targeting an individual admin who executes a decision is a futile exercise. Do not shoot the messenger.

The decision and the judgment of the admin team is final.

    Sohu,

Look at post # 4. I added one of your comments in there. I did not add the comment on membership ranking - main reason I did not add that was the question in my mind of that was a "Code of Conduct".

Members may query us on ranking anyways and we will respond to that. If you still think it belongs in COC also, we can add it there.

I would like to finalize the COC, publish it and then you and I can evaluate the next thread in "Club Office" . Once done with review of all threads in club office, I am hoping that you and I can then tackle the FAQ and complete that.

What you called as COC-23, I have inserted it as COC-18 because it is very similar to COC-17, I wanted to group them.

OK, I updated the Public COC thread in CLub Office.

Now let us take the Welcome thread next, review it and edit it.

I will post my comment in red a little later today.

    WELCOME

    Welcome to the R2ICLUBFORUMS.

    Who are we ?

We started the finance forum on Sept 24, 2002 and on Deecember 10, 2002 split it into two forums, the Finance Forum and the R2IClub. This forum was started by RRK with like minded NRIs who work hard outside India, dreaming to return back to the home country, wealthy and healthy.

    Why this forum ?

The ever changing tax laws and investment options available to NRIs outside India and inside India continue to pose challenge for everyone to plan their retirement efficiently. Needless to say it is next to impossible for any one individual to keep abreast with all the investment options available.

In addition to the financial planning and tax issues, NRIs have to be constantly in touch with Immigration laws and understand its impact in their tax situation, career and life. This all have to be done in addition to their job and family responsibilities !!

No wonder why we need a forum to discuss, share our experiences and also learn from other like minded individuals !!

    Who should join ?

This forum is suitable to any Indians planning to find a job and career abroad (especially in USA ), living abroad and planning to return home. Some NRIs who have no plans to return back and those already returned also may find this forum useful, because many issues discussed here is very much relevant to their life and retirement planning.

    Your Post

Keep in mind, the current and future resident status have major impact in taxes and investment choices. Stating the residency status will help the members trying to help you with answers. Also it increases your chance of getting more accurate reply without any misunderstanding.

This forum is registered as suitable for all ages. So, make sure you dont use any indecent words.

Please keep up the dignity and decency in your postings, even if you dont agree with other opinions.

Write a thank you note if you got a helping reply from any member. This motivates the contributors.

In reviewing and editing this message, following will help:

Go to MSN finance forum and on the left panel locate the following two:

    Welcome and About Us.

Print out both of those sheets or copy/paste both on word and then review combine.

I will do that a little later today.
