I would not trust baggage handlers. I would avoid checkins...

I had sent a data filled hard drive with my mother in her handbag. She faced no problems...

once i carried HD in checked in luggage and then it became useless. though was physically intact the data got corrupted possibly due to powerful scanners.

I have checked in my 'Surface' last june and have had no data loss. Previously I used to check in my laptop had never sufferred any data loss. Recently I have not been travelling with my laptop.
