I was watching the Singham movie the other day, some nth time. People who have seen it will probably remember it. There is a dialog that minister says. (Translated from Hindi). Thinking about walking on burning coal is no doubt, a brave and great thing, but actually walking on burning coal is a foolish thing.
This dialogue actually struck me, I think I can directly link it with early retirement. It is great to think about it, but actually foolish to do it. Do you guys agree?

Nope.....retirement at early stage means freeing up you energies to work on something you love.
I will focus my energy in travelling, research, philantrophy and health once I retire.
Dont forget that 2 generations from now would retire as soon as they are born due to Universal Basic Income

crazyforger;668478All of this needs money. So you move from a mode of "spending time to earn money" to "spending time to spend money". So this requires that psychologically you are prepared and financially you are prepared.

As long as you have passive income...you should be fine.
You can also do a lot of things if you do it in a simple manner.
Like travelling doesnt mean staying at exotic hotels. If thats the outlook, we wont be able to retire in the first place lol

Doing anything for which we are not actually prepared may turn into an adventure.....and only later we realize whether it lead to better experience or worse.
It all depends on, can we afford it. The last I saw Bill gates is not that doing bad in early retirement. At the same time. seems like, Larry Ellison and Warren Buffet still enjoy their work.
It all depends on personal preference. Some people choose to brave the expense free life than deal with office politics during the 9-5 rut.
I am not sure I will call it foolish, maybe irresponsible if one has kids who will be put in hardship due to bad decision by parents.

philantrophy does not always need money, we can do wonders by just donating our time which will be free...

Looking forward to Universal Basic Income, automation and not dealing with pesky humans.

I dont think its foolishness. if well planned and people live within their means it is very doable. as far as responsibility to children goes, everyone's definition differs. i think for my family, both DH and I agree that its good education and good citizenship. OTOH i have seen some parents who are targeting to leave 1M for their kids etc.

1M is foolishness. People are financially dumb.
Just 100k in mutual funds when they turn 18 should be more than sufficient.
It would become 4 mil by the time they are 58.
