Ashcoounter - you can do a lot of those things in Bangalore.
The theatre/live art community is very much alive here - check out http://www.indianstage.in to find out the weekly happenings (sign up for their emails).
Of course, some of the plays are in Hindi and/or Kannada and if you don't know these languages it would reduce your choices.
There are dozens of music classes in traditional Indian (veena, violin, mrudangam) and western instruments (guitar, keyboard, etc).
Malleshwaram, Jayanagar are more traditional areas while Koramangala, Indiranagar are more western.
There are plenty of outlets for social/community volunteering as well (http://www.youthforseva.org for example)
As for hanging out with friends - there is no shortage of malls, pubs and restaurants. Bangalore is well known for its drinking & eating-out culture.
Nightlife is limited in Bangalore currently - most dancing/drinking places need to close by 11:30pm as per the current government orders.
Of course, please temper your expectation. While Bangalore has a lot to offer it does not come anywhere close to NYC/Manhattan (the #1 city of the most powerful contry in the world cannot be compared to a small city in Southern India!)

Bachelor Life in Bangalore - Things to do...
Post by g2 is nice. BUT... Do not compare and expect Bangalore to be anything like NYC. .. Bombay is as close as it gets to NYC.. and then again not everything is easy REACH like Manhattan is..
Cars.. Cabs.. Chauffers.. Trains... Buses.. yes... Commute..
Bangalore is a slow & lazy town compared to NYC/ Bombay. Things shut EARLY.. compared to NYC. If you want a slower pace then Bangalore is the place.. for u.
PS: Did I mention bad traffic and long commutes... to places.. without the glam of NYC/Manhattan
