Age of Kids to move back?

Post by Priyadarshini »

Hi

Kids age plays a key role in deciding when to move back. I certainly know that earlier the move the better it is for kids. What is the right age to move back to India? Or what is the age after which the move is going to be hard on parents?

Thank you

Moving earlier gives the kids a better time frame to adjust to the change. My entire family moved to the US when I was in the first grade and this allowed me to fit in a little better. However, I still wish to move back to India but that's a different case. Try moving as early as possible.

Yes younger the kids easier the move/ change is for them to handle. Nevertheless each one has a different story and set of priorities to deal with. I would think till grade 4th is still ok i.e around 9/10 especially before they hit teens is giving them 1-2 years to settle down. Though each kid is different and some adjust quickly which other can be very sensitive to change. You have to assess your situation and adjustment scale of kids.

Yours is an exceptional case man, maybe because you like someone in India.

I dont know. I have seen parents with R2I plans struggling with even kids in 2nd grade! I would say to before Kindergarten adjusting would be seamless.

No sir, even when I didn't like that someone, I loved India. I just get a feeling of being at home whenever I'm in India. Besides, my love story doesn't seem as if it's going to go far

Are you sure you grew up here? Something is not adding up, no kid will go to India from US. India is a “fun place” for them but love India? or you feel like its home….!! I doubt it you are an ABCD….

Haven't we known that for some time now :wink ?

Children raised in the USA wouldn't go and hang out in an internet forum where first gen immigrants are discussing container sharing. However, an avatar (of whatever reality) may go on and claim to be whatever; after all, it is an anonymous forum.

Be that as it may, I recall one member recommending that marriage and children should be after one had gone to America, made money, and returned. That way one would avoid the heart-ache and misery of having to convince the LIA-bent spouse to agree to R2I, deal with what age the child should be taken back to inculcate the proper values, interact with grandparents and cousins, enjoy the local culture and learn. According that scheme, the right age for a child to return to India would be minus 2.

Like the MAN says:

..Yes I've been an American citizen since the first grade. What seems to be such a fantasy in what I've stated? It is completely possible for an Indian raised in America to love India. You can clearly see from my life. Okonomi, I found this forum while searching on Google for an Indian community who, like myself, wants to R2I.
