My USC daughter currently in India and would be Returning to USA for her Undergraduate study in USA State University.

I understand that University will consider: the student's academic performance in High School, SAT/ACT scores, essay, extracurricular activities and teacher recommendation letter for Admission.

I have question regarding two options she has after X in schools in India.

She has option for, International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and Cambridge British Advanced-Levels, for Standard XI and XII.

I would like to know, which curriculum (IB or A-Level) is better to compete in USA State University for Undergraduate Admission.

Hey! My cousin came to the UK last year, and he was studying in a state board junior college. He had also applied to the US and had admits. He chose the UK because it is less number of years (3 vs 4) and it also costs him less because of academic bursaries. Re your question, IMHO based on my cousin's exp, any XI and XII environment should be good for US admissions. A strong recco and sports achievements can help in securing scholarships. All the very best.

Hi Gitana/R2IedMumbai

We moved to Bangalore 2 years back. We are USCs and my son is currently doing his XI (PCMB) in the CBSC stream. He has a pretty good academic record so far. He took SAT ACT when he was in his 7th and 8th Grades in US. His scores were pretty descent. He is planning to take his current SAT in this October followed by ACT as well. His interests are towards Interdisciplinary courses of Math and Science (like Biomedical Engineering / Technology and alike).

The questions are about
- Having his pre-university courses in India - will it affect his scholarships / funding chances differently compared to his US counterparts?
- OR will he be treated like a International student (and has to follow a different channel to secure admissions/scholarships/funding)?

Any additional information from your experience in getting admissions/scholarships/funding is highly appreciated.

Please help.

Regards

Srikal

He will be treated Internation Student for the admission.

I will be going for IB or A-Level but not sure which curriculum (IB or A-Level) is better received in USA State University for Undergraduate Admission. Does it value equally? or one is recognise more than other?

Hope someone in this forum can answer this question.

Through couple of his friends who are in similar situation, I "heard" that, as long as you play the US State tax (along with US federal tax) you will be treated as local to that state. Again trying to feed back from people who went through this.

Also I understood that, taking IB/ICSE has a better chance of getting good admission to US uvinversities. But taking CBSE or State Board doesn't disqualify one.

However, the effective recommendations / extra curricular activities are not easy to come by when one is in CBSE or State Board. Not sure how far this is correct as well.

- Having a US Citizenship has any advantages (or disadvantages as well) when the kid approach US Univiersity addmissions (when he has his recent & current studies in India)?
- Or what else one needs to be pursue additionally compared to a guy who is locally in US.?

So I am looking for feedback and experience from parents who have got admissions / funding (or both) from this part of the globe (i.e. India).

Regards

Srikal - Thanks for your valuable info. On the lighter side, I think it was a typo on the word 'Play' as it should have been 'Pay' and that's fine. But wait a minute, some folks generally play with US State tax where they show less income and pay less taxes such as small business folks and in turn they take advantage of putting their kids in good state college where they are eligible in 'Low income' quota :-)

For others, we will have to Pay US State tax regularly and US State will Play on our kids college admission :-)
