We are R2Ing on 28th April.

First a big thanks to this group admins, members and all.
We are R2Ing on 28th April to Bangalore.
First, a little background: We have been planning on this R2I
for the past 3 years. Since our kids are slightly older kids
compared to many R2Iers in this forum (they will be going to 7th and 5th
grade), 3 years back we did a mini R2i - wife and kids went back to India,
lived for almost an year, kids did one full year of schooling there.
Kids liked it very much there(they like it here too), so they are very excited about going back to India. They are aware of too much homework in school
but they think they can make more friends in India and also the good weather all around the year. Plus we threw in a bonus to them, that we will buy a dog for them there!
When we did the mini R2I, I stayed back here to sell the house and rented an
apartment. Before the move we sold many stuff and recently also
we sold almost all the furniture and other things. We didn't think of shipping a container as most of the stuff were 7 years or older. But we are going with one extra luggage. Packing is going on, we hope 8 - 9 big bags will be sufficient.

Accommodation in Bangalore -

We booked a 3 BR apartment in April 06(Sobha builders - ORR)
but it will be ready by July - August only. So we will be renting an apartment
for few months. Someone is working on that.

Job -

2 weeks back, I posted CV on Naukri and Monster. Getting lots of emails from
placement consultants. I am also working with few contacts. My feeling is that
jobs are plenty. So I am not worrying too much about it now.

Kids Schooling -

As I mentioned above my kids are going to higher grades, so it was not
easy to get admission for them without entrance test, interview etc. While we were working with some international schools, I came across the link for this school:

http://www.ebenezerinternationalschool.org/

Its a new school coming up near Electronics city. They have guaranteed admission for the kids. We will go there as soon as we land in Bangalore and complete the formalities.

Thats all I can think of now. I don't know when I will be able to post more but someday soon..

best regards,
theHW.

Hearty Congratulations!!!
It looks like you (and family) have planned very well and are in the process of implementing the plan to perfection. I personally liked the innovative ways you've adopted (mini R2I and Dog Bonus were very interesting).
Good Luck and Best Wishes...It will be nice if you were to post your experiences as you go about implementing your plan.

And so, the Gold Rush continues... -DJ

Looks like a lot of folks are returning this summer. We will be in Bangalore on June 30th. Waiting for children to complete the school year.

My husband will be working in Electronics City. I will most likely get the job in the same company. We have an apartment near Bannerghatta Road. We got admission for the children at Treamis World School www.twschool.org, a school run by NRIs and American schools. Because of American environment, my children can easily get adjusted to the school system. It is also closer to our work place. The school has a program to keep the children for 2 hours after the school hour. We can drop and pick up the children on our way to and from the work. We have the same set-up as in the USA.

Does anyone know the cost of Toyota Corolla in India? I believe it costs a lot. Does it make sense to ship our car to India? Can they convert left hand drive to right hand?

Dont think it is legal to have a left hand drive in India these days. A corolla would cost around Rs 12 lakhs. You can research cars according to your budget on http://www.carwale.com/Research/BrowseCars.aspx
