Resident gurus, welcome your suggestions/comments.

I'm in the process of accepting an offer and getting ready to move back. Have been going over many posts/blogs and other material to get up to speed - should say Hats off to all posters.

a) Move is from FL, US to Bengaluru. Work location will be EGL.

b) The start date is tentatively end of January 2011, so I'm planning to go alone while dear wife stays behind with kids (pre-k and 4th grade) and complete the school year (at least until April and get the required certificate to go to next grade).

c) Planning to rent a temp place/paying guest/hotel on Bannerghatta road when I start in Jan and go on a hunt to find a decent/convenient rental place in the vicinity to prepare for receiving the family. I have Feb/March to complete this exercise and get dear wife's approval. No plans to buy any place, yet. Any recommendations?

d) Exploring DPS South, DPS East, Kumaran’s, NPS Kormanagala and NPS Indiranagar. Depending on the school either we will settle down someplace on Bannerghatta road or in Indiranagar. Bannerghatta is a little far I believe from EGL, but we have few friends in that area. Dear wife is handling this front.

e) Take few weeks off and fly back to US in April, pack and ship the household items, say Good bye to everyone and board the plane to Bengaluru with family for good.

I’m sure we might have overlooked a number of things, so would certainly appreciate comments/critics or feedbacks.

-Thanks

sipit,
Congratulations!. Employer willing to wait till that time is great. I am in the same boat; in fact I was suppose to be there by this time, but pushed by few more weeks. In Bannerghatta road look at Mantri Paradise or elegence.

From Bannerghatta road EGL is 14 kms. Hope this helps & good luck in moving.

Thanks appanna. It kinda worked out. Still waiting to receive the formal offer, so it's not a done deal yet.

I will take a look at Matri Paradise/Elegence. Other forum members have shared so much info about various projects on Bannerghatta raod, it's very overwhelming to arrive at a manageable list. EGL 14 kms - I'm hoping shouldn't take more than 45 mts to an hour. Trying to strike a balance between my commute and kids school (assuming either South/East DPS or one of those schools in South Bangalore).

I will also be joining employer in EGL. Although offer or start date is not finalized yet. Any other reasons (than friends) you are looking at Bannerghatta Road? I was thinking of Koramangla or Indiranagar considering the proximity to EGL.

I agree with gurusw. I would strongly suggest to settle down in Koramangala or Domlur/Indira Nagar area.

Bannerghatta road even from near IIM would be over 8 KM, more like 10 depending upon the road. If you move interiors to BG road, it may go up. Also, the corridor to drive to EGL from there would be very crowded. More importantly, from rent, schooling, quality of life & facilities, Indira Nagar/Koramangala would not be very high compared to BG road. My guess is that it may be 10% more expensive, but you are within 15 minutes drive from home. That would be priceless!

Good luck.

gurusw - No particular reason to settle down on BG road. Having friends there is just one factor, but a lot depends on what school the kids will get into. Also, wanted to stay within a reachable distance from J Ngr 4th block market. But, yes will do some research in Kormangla and Indiranagar areas as well.

KirkS - Thanks for the distance clarification. I will certainly take 15mts drive :-), since it takes less than that for me now and my kid walks to school in less than 5mts since the school is in my community. We certainly will be missing this luxury. I remember riding my bike on B G road some 15-16 years ago wasn't that bad then, but things might be completely different today. I was gauging the distance looking on Gmaps, but the ground realities could be completely different. We were basing our settling down plan on primarily school locations, i.e. if Indira Ngr then NPS (good for me), if Kormangla NPS, DPS East (still good for me), if BG road then NPS Kormanga, DPS East, DPS South and Kumaran's (now I see it's quite a distance). My wife's leaning towards DPS South or Kumaran's if we get either one of them, hence BG road but the driving distance to EGL might be an issue then.

I'm sure there are tons of residential places in Kormangla and Indira Ngr, but can someone recommend some good residential places in these two areas? Our plan is to rent to begin with and if we like the place, perhaps buy in the same community. The community should be preferably close to market place/public transportation.

-Thanks

Good luck with your move.

We are returning to Bangalore in May 2011. I am trying for admission in St patrick's Academy, Sarjapur Road. This is a new school started last year, but they run some of the best schools in India (St Michaels Academy, Chennai etc).

Sipit - Commuting from Bannerghatta to EGL will be a real pain. BG Road is bad enough on normal days but its a nightmare when it rains and/or there is an accident and/or there is road construction. There are not a whole lot of detours from BG Road so if you get stuck it gets painful real quick.

I agree with the others here in advising that you stay elsewhere - Indiranagar/Domlur would be perfect for EGL or Koramangala or even Whitefield/Maratahalli area. Remember - just getting in and out of EGL campus in peak hours could take 10mins.
