I've been following this wonderful forum for a while and it appears that most of the R2I-ees are from IT field. Barring few doctors [e.g. Raj Radio,Suma chechi...], are there any other health care professionals, allied health care professionals/therapists , professionals in other fields viz-Business management ,finance, agriculture, geology etc...who have R2I'ed successfully ?
If you are one among those mentioned, please share your experiences. Even if you've heard stories of your close friends who have R2I'ed ,we would love to hear about them.
Thanks.

I am also looking for any dentists who have moved from abroad and settled in India. Interested in knowing/learning opportunities, cost of starting up a practice, etc. Any pointers?

Seems like there is a limited audience on this forum to respond to your query. The fact is there are plenty of non-IT folks who have returned. You may want to do a search on Linkedin. Not sure if it will give you a lot of leads on medical professionals but certainly offer you connection opportunities in areas like banking, finance, product management, marketing etc. Good luk.

I am moving to Bangalore in May. Have lived in the USA for 21 years, so I am sure it will take some transition time. But I am optimistic. I am a non IT person -- background in public health and social research. Found a job by interviewing on skype!! How's that for a non IT situation? :). It is a non profit organization. So of course, pay is not what the IT folks expect (nor is it here in the US anyway!). Looking forward to the new position (not the commute though. But they came as a package deal :).
I did go back and meet the company folks before agreeing to take the job. Hoping it will all work out.

Hi ...
I have a Phd in Business Administration..and I taught as an assistant professor for an year before I quit and stayed home full time to take care of my kids...
I recently found this forum..and have to agree that being a non-IT person is making it difficult to find jobs/info on relocating to India.
Just wanted to say..thanks for starting this thread!

Dear Aden123,
I am a Uk based paediatric endocrinologist, planning for the past 7 years, and 6 near-attempts at Rf2I and now planning for it yet another time. Have given up my job and am in a major phase of cold-feet /butterflies.
I think it is more difficult when you have everything going for you here, needs a lot of conviction, but my mind tells me there is a thin line between conviction /bravery and foolishness.
However, I know of few medics who have successfully made the shift.
1) Paediatric Surgeon : India and UK qualified, successfully r2ied 10 ys back with family. Doing extremely well, but had a hard time initially. I think determination and attitude is what has seen him through. (back to Mumbai)
2) Paediatric Nephrologist : Was a successful consultant, but relocated circumstantially from what I know, and in a very quick and surprise manner, so was more difficult/traumatic. However 5 yrs down the line and he is doing well. He warns of all the difficulties in relocating, but feels is the right time for professionals (medics) to consider returning.
3) not quite r2I : Paediatric Neurologist India trained got a locum consultant job in a premier institute. Was getting a strarightforward recognition of degrees towards consultant equvalence, but declined and went back to Mumbai as did not want to be in a dilemma so closed the door for good.
4) Neurosurgeon: got a job at GOSH and still locums every year there, but went back at age 40 and describes a very tough two years followed by great success. Has family that went back. He seemed bound by a strong religious/spiritual backing and again, determination and attitude.
5) Paediatric Surgeon : from many year back , declined a job at GOSH, and pvt practice in mumbai. Seems to like it in Mumbai, though conditions then quite different.
I have been preparing for the past 7 years, talking to people in mumbai etc, and medically there is a lot to be said with all the corporate hospitals etc. A US returned Paediatrician describes his years of doing GP rounds to beg for referrals, but is impressed at how much nicer we can market ourselves thesedays. ie. talks sponsored by pharma companies, etc.
I am hoping my specialty will draw referrals as am one of a small handful of people in Mumbai /Pune.
Hope that helps , and do keep posting
