As a US citizen, is it possible to divide time between USA (70%) and India (30%). This is assuming that telecommute option is viable and in place. Logistics can be taken care regarding housing. But my main concern is for growing kids. Would it be disruptive for them?
Also, how would we not disrupt schooling. Do american schools accomodate home tuition for times that the kids are away. Would they accept their absence provided the students demonstrate they have been keeping up with the curriculum?
or is it better that they study in indian schools? Would indian schoold accomodate this method?

Anybody with this experience who can throw more light on this. If one did not have family, dividing time would have been so easy. School going children complicate the picture tremendously.

One of my friends splits time between US and India. He has his own small software product and services company with offshore in India, he spends about 7-8 months here in the US and the rest in India. His time in India is primarily from November to Feb/March. His family joins him around Christmas holidays and are back in the US when schools re-open, so far working out good, he has been doing this since 2007 or so...

I have been thinking about the same. But I dont think shuttling between US and India with school going kids with 2-3 months of absense from school is viable/wise. If I can earn a living and can support a family in US without a full time job in US then I might start spending 2-3 months in India with family joining me in India during kid's school breaks and wife's vacation. Not sure how will that go. Looks difficult.

How about summer - when US schools are closed for 2 months. You can have the family in India for the summer. They can come back for the new school session and you can join them a month or 2 later - so that make 8-9 moths in US and 3-4 months in India, without any disrupion to the Kids schooling.
