With 150K saving it will be difficult to lead a decent life in India unless you have any other savings in India. If there's no compelling reason, i would stay here.

Okemos I agree with what you are saying but I was wondering...$150k is almost 65 lacs rupees. Do people in India with 12-14 years of emplpoyment have more than 65 lacs in savings?

rsvictory, it is worth to think if you can save more in next few years being in India or US to offset the loss. Prob. that will help to decide.

First of all thanks for taking time and posting your opinions.
Reason for R2I is simple. Spend time with Parents while they are healthy. Give kids the Indian lifestyle and traditional touch.
I did invest in plots which might give me around 40 lacs or so. so now coming back my net worth is 150k cash + plots etc
want to join kids in a decent school (Not International).
My boys will be 10 and 7 in 2012 and I feel it is the right time for me to go back. God knows when the US real estate will pick up. With the trend of outsourcing pretty much spread to every company in the US, there are less chances for any Career growth here. I would say finding your own job back in the company will be in Jeapordy in coming years.

My kids are same age as yours and we have R2Ied almost 5 years ago. At this stage of the game, you really need to think on multiple levels.
1. In 8 years from now, your older one will be ready for college. Do you want him to do undergrad in the US? Many people feel that even an average US college provides better education/experience than some of the best colleges in India. Of course, the counter would be "So what. We all studied in mediocre Indian colleges and became successful in US and are now at par (or above) with US college graduates". True on both sides.
If your preference is to have your kid study in the US, do you feel comfortable to send him alone or do you plan to tag along? I
If you do prefer to tag along, do you really want to leave US, take a hit on house and job, all for 7 or 8 years?
2. How much time are you willing to "test the waters" in India? Don't assume that you already know everything about India and you will be fine here. Many R2Iers get the shock of living in India and a few would R2A. Can you and the family really take the assault of the external factors on your senses for long enough to adjust and then grow to ignore or tune-out the unpleasentaries of life that presents itself in every nook and corner of India? It takes about 2 years for most folks to get to that state.
3. In addition to the traffic, pollution, mosquitoes, bribery etc, If you end up hating your job in India, spouse complaining about in-law intrusions, kids frequently getting sick, parents/relatives not really appreciative (or nonchalant) of you being around, would you still stay in India or would you R2A?
In other words, what is your "guiding light" to stick in India that you could say to yourself in such situations. For example, when you are coming home late in the evening with a severe cold after a meeting with your direct reports that went bad, a rash auto driver hits you and tries to run away. The police would pull both of you but would not take a written complaint from you until you pay him his bribe. You want to file a complaint and then go the hospital/pharmacy but he would not let you go. You would mutter to yourself "In spite of everything that happened to me today, I still want to stay in India because _________"
In the end, you will realize that you have to R2I for yourself (and your spouse) only and not either for the kids or for the parents or for desh. It is not for financial reasons either. If you do not have such strong conviction and a thick skin, then why rock the boat?

Very well laid out Vizagdesi. In could be situations you described or one may see situations like these:
