R2I or wait for GC

This is my first post in the forums and this site is very useful.
My Status: GC in process with PD April '04 under EB3, stable job, 2 kids(9 and 3) both born in US, staying in US for the past 9 years
Planning to return to chennai in 2012.
Reasons to return:
Always wanted to return. Do not want to stay more as my daughter will be 10 yrs in 2012 and it might be difficult for her to adjust if we delay more.
Here are my concerns:
1) Without GC, will not be able to accompany my daughter for college if at all.
2) Without GC, will not have buffer to test for any health issues for kids using re-entry permit.
3) Being in US for this many years not having GC or USC feels like we are missing to get the insurance(GC or USC) which we might get in few years.
Am in a big dilemma to wait for GC or not. If we do not get GC and R2I what we need to be aware if doing college in US. If doing college in India what all should we be aware of. Please share your thoughts.

There are many threads on this topic. Search to get more inputs.
There is no point in r2i after GC as it is tough to maintain it. You have to visit US frequently and that is expensive. When you apply for USC, officers will figure out what you were up to. Unless you get USC I don't think it is worth waiting. If you get USC then it is not worth r2i as it will be too late from kid's schooling and adjustment issues. Kids can come back to US for studies/work and you can get tourist visa. No point in thinking and worrying too far in life.

it's the right time to r2i if you are serious about it. GC is needed only if you wanted to stay in US, so why wait for it.

Yes; #2 is right... you can check some threads in this forum...use the search function.
here is a useful one
that discusses the issue relevant to the future of your child..
PD of April 04 : that could be very close.... I have not kept up with this...
Getting the female child to "adjust", and doing that in time, is a common theme with several R2I struggles. 2012 is a while away...read the threads in the forum and ruminate.

It may take a few ( 3 or more) years before Apr 04 becomes current in EB3. If you really want to get the GC , try to do the EB3 to EB2 conversion if you are eligible. If everyting works out ok you should get your GC in 6 months. Then you can R2I.

Well yeah, but the difference is he could go back to india poorer by 10K. He'll anyway lose his GC if he doesn't come back in 2 years, why to spend money on porting from EB3 to EB2.

Having GC is much better than not having that extra 10K in your savings account. As someone suggested to OP, i would suggest him to apply under EB2. If you are lucky you may get the GC in 6 months.
CookieMonster, go for EB2 conversion. Sitting in EB3 with PD of 04 is not going to help you at all. Dates may retrogress in coming october. So no point in waiting and wasting time. PD 04 looks close yet so far.
If you know Tamil, With EB3 04 PD
"GC Varum, aana varathu". (Translation: "GC will come, but may not come) Note: In my case i ported my EB3 to EB2 with PD of 2002. I got my GC back in 2008 end. Now counting my days towards USC. If you need any help porting to EB2 send me a PM, i can help you in this regard.

You did not answer the question. For a person who wants to go back in 2012, you are giving him a five year plan to go back. We all understand the benefits of GC but how it's going to help in OPs case, I see very little benefit in OPs case and infact is going to create more dilemma.

Arnold, your response was based on his plan. My response was based on his concerns. If he has definite R2I plan, then he would not have any concerns. Since he has so many concerns regarding GC, his plans may change any time. So my response.
