Dilemma : R2I flavor

I am in 2 minds regarding whether to R2I or not. But since my employer in USA has a office in India, I have a chance to work from there for a limited time (say 3 months). Do you think this gives me a good amount of time to decide on my R2I. Pl note that my hometown will be 1.5 hrs away from the place of work. So I'll be renting, and visiting home on weekend when possible.
Is/was there anyone in the same boat? What do people think is ok timeframe to arrive at the decision?
Will a visit will ever be equal to actual R2I?
Thanks in advance for your comments and thoughts.

Its better than no visit at all. 3 months is enough time to at least get to know if you will fit into the office politics and the work culture. And you can always extend by another 3 months once you get there.

If you have an opportunity to work from India for 3 months, grab it! most people don't get this kind of "luxury" - it's usually a one shot hit or miss.
3 months is more than enough but make good use of your time in India - most importantly see for yourself if you can adapt to the work culture.

Thanks for your responses.
I must say I am surprised that work culture is your top concern. I work in IT , and I hear that the work culture in India is chaning for better as more & more folks are returning back.
I am personally more worried about commute conditions and pollution. Also cost of housing & quality of education for kids (in the longer run). But that's for later & I guess there are other threads to discuss that.

Only way to know for sure is to go and experience, and you have got that opportunity; use it.
You should not be worried about quality of education in India, aren't we all doing well with the education we got from India?. If our kids are half as smart as we are, they will definitely do much better than us.

OP:
3 months is a great opportunity to visit India. Immerse yourself in all aspects as much as you can.
But as far as this being useful to help you in dilemma? I doubt. After all your stay, conflicting opinions, experiences, the ball will still be in your court. Inspite of all that you think, hear, see, you will still have the question- do I want to r2i?
Once the material issues (house, job, schools) are taken care of, it comes down to your core honest desire.
Goodluck.

Can't agree more on that with you. There are pros and cons in LIA and R2I. there is no single answer for this question. The individual is the best judge.

If possible take your wife and kids too. Don't look at it as short term stay but look at if you r2i'ed and came here for good. That will help you put things into prespective.

The problem is that everybody's kids are smarter and in India everything is competition based. :) And there r no new Govt colleges opening ... well at least in Maharashtra where I am from. All the politicians r using Govt land to build private colleges, and taking huge sums of donation & fees. I was admitted in Govt college for my engineering, and it cost me Rs 10,000/- for all 4 yrs combined. Not that I do not have money for my kids education in private schools, but the whole thing makes me sick. Maybe education in USA will be better & cheaper when my kids will reach college age.

Good advice. After 10 years in USA, I am at a position to take care of material things. The problem with R2I is to build everything anew. But That's the sacrifice I am willing to do for parents.
