Situation - Came to US 8 yrs, masters - Me and Wife on GC both working. No house- sell cars and R2I :)
Son - 6 months - USC
Plan to R2I - Mid 2012
Reason - Stong urge to go back to family and always find myself justifying it financially by saying "India is a booming economy right now, growth is much higher in India" All true but know deep down the reason is to go back to family and watch son grow up and spend time with grandparents.
Work Ex - 7 years, working as a project manager since the last 3.

I am in a real dilema becuase I really dont want to rough it out for 3 more years and delay R2I, but would that be a dumb idea becuase I gave up chances of USC. I know I can get a renentry permit as insurance for 2 years which I think would be enough for me to decide if I like it and want to live there (pollution, traffic, corruption dont really bother me on the short trips that i go back, so done think it would really bother me long term)

So the real question - Would it be a good decision to R2I now, or just a dumb idea and I should wait some more. I calculated and I would get USC right around the time my son would be ready to goto first grade, but I know every year it becomes exponentially more difficult so dont want to wait.....but looking for some assurance OR someone to tell me are you crazy...u have to wait !!!!

browse this site for R2I and R2A experiences and read. Ask your spouse to read. Use the Google search feature on top of the page. Take the advice of the lady of the home, and do what she says. Plan well and be happy with your decision.
best wishes.

I think you should better wait and go to india after getting your US citizenship. Otherwise after 2 years ofliving in India it becomes a very hard decision to give up GC. And you might have to come back just to save your GC.

I don't know your job situation but here is what I will do if I were in your situation. Get into consulting and work around 8 to 9 months a year in US and spend the rest 3 to 4 months in India until you become eligible for USC. Your kid will stay close to Indian roots and you get USC.

Do you know what percentage of people of your socio-economic background ( in India ) wish they were in your sheos (living in USA) ?
Those are the people you will be living and socialising with once back home !
Don't rough it out....
Enjoy your next 3 years.

Ask yourself why you are living in the US? Do you like it here? Do you feel at home or feel like a "fish out of water"? Do you feel assimilated and happy? Have you adapted yourself well socially or is the nostalgia of your past years in India more overwhelming? If all those are in the affirmative, stay on. If not, forget the green card and USC and anything else that goes with the ability to tie you to the US. Pack up and run and try to climb the opportunity curve in India. It does not get any more difficult than that.
