Tired of waiting for GC......PD march 2004 in EB3. Company is not ready to convert to EB2 as it is too costly nor does the they allow for an employee to pay for it. Parents living by themselves india and in mid 70s and health deteriorating day by day. Not too much interested in US or us jobs anymore. Just getting hopeless of the whole situation and don't see anything good happening in future. I am basically stuck in this job and wasting my prime years working for horrible manager and bunch of idiots. They think I won't go anywhere due to immigration situation. Have a paid house in tier 2 city and no debt or loans. Don't know what to do next? Feel like stop dreaming the American dream and just pack and go and spend some time with parents in their golden years rather than suffocating myself in the current situation. But I get scared as well as what will happen once i go to India and what if burn up all my saving and don't get a job. If I leave, it will pretty much a ONE way road for me. I am married and have 6 yr old child. Wife is so far ok but not 100% on the bus yet. Advises, suggestions, opinions welcome.

Shukriya and dhanyawad.

Can you not transfer to another employer in the US or is your visa restrictive in that sense? That would atleast give you freedom from having to work for &ricks.

You say you are concerned about chewing thru all your savings if you returned and did not find work in India. What field are you in? I don't believe you will have no job opportunities upon return given you have gained valuable experience in the US and are able to hold onto a job here. Plan for a scenario where you will set aside funds for say a few months and then put all your energy into getting a job back in India. Do you have any network of friends/family who could help with your job search? Good luck..

First of all Thanks for your reply. Yes i can try to transfer to another employer but I would probably be making significantly less than what i making now. I am in banking field and have worked in that particular job role for more than 10 years (with different employers) and it is unlikely that I will find similar job/salary combination. Having said that, I am torn between....two options....go back to India and spend time with parents and set up some kinda business that gives me enough income to live middle class life. I did not come from a rich family nor do I want to belong to that class in future. I want comfortable life. I also know that I may find a job in India but being out of India for a long time and all my work experience in particular area of banking field may not help. I am in semi-IT field, and manage technical/business reporting analysts. I do not know if that would land me a decent job in India. I think about this dilemma everyday as go to office ...every hour that i am wasting my time but also scared enough to change anything due to the fact that i may loose everything...i.e. job, family , peace etc. It is a very strange feeling that although i dont like the current situation but dont have the courage to take a bold step to doing something different for me.

Dear Mr. goldieg: Since your child is only 6 years old, I think it is the right time to exit from U.S. If you pass on for another 3 or 4 years, it may be difficult for your child to adjust to the Indian educational system. Many rich Indians dream to go back to India before their children cross 5 to 7 years. You know that U.S. is facing terrible recession, and growth in India is booming, and no doubt your experience in the Banking industry will definitely help you since Banking is one of the recession proof areas and there are so many banking systems developed in India due to globalization and international banking establishments in India. You can look for a job in India (such as Bank of America or any international bank) that is connected to U.S. so that they can easily recognize your experience. In addition to this, your experience can be useful to Indian private sector banks as well. Though you may remain as an upper middle class family member, you can invest your savings wisely and grow slowly. Your child can learn Indian traditional values, and take care of parents/you when you are old. You can enjoy experiencing your same mother tongue people. Primary education in India is very strong (whereas higher education in U.S. may be good). Doors are open for you through your child if your child desires to settle in U.S. after 15 years, since child can sponsor child's parents as a U.S. citizen. Meanwhile, you can take care of your elderly parents and justify your purpose of living, because it would be very difficult to accommodate them bringing to U.S. I see your situation as a fortune and time has come for you to enjoy your roots as an Indian by experiencing our happy peaceful and devotional Indian life (since no hourly rate is followed in India, hence time is not always equated with money, unlike U.S.). You can also enjoy your liberty at your employment and need not feel as if like a second class subordinate, and your wife also not negative to your situation, so, I don't see any problem for your departure from U.S., and in addition to the above, a person without debts is a rich man in his own life, so, instead of spending like an upper middle class family in U.S., better to spend as a higher middle class family in India. As per your occupation, I see no difference between your situation in U.S. and India, since it is the same class, i.e. Upper or Higher, but your Indian journey possibly can add self-satisfaction to your life [irrespective of your parents' need for your care], and when you have a moral and ethical responsibility to take care of your parents as their beloved son, you should not have any second thoughts on this decision considering your ordinary job satisfaction in U.S., and understanding wife to support your relocation. These are only my thoughts, but remember, you are responsible for your decisions, and my best wishes for your future endeavors.

IF this is the main reason for R2I, I would wait until the Senate votes one way or the other on HR 3012/1857 bill. Rumors are this bill will be taken up in the Senate in Q1 2012. (IMO, the bill will not be taken up after Q1 and it may be put to the shredder.)
Apart from this, any reason why you can't change your employer and apply for GC in EB2? You may probably get your GC in a year and then it opens up the REP possibility.
