Hi,

I am an US Green Card holder currently in India with reentry permit. My Indian passport is
expiring. There is a declaration in Indian passport renewal application form which says that

Self Declaration

I owe allegiance to the sovereignty , unity & integrity of India, and have not voluntarily acquired citizenship or travel document of any

other country.

Now reentry permit is a travel document.

1. Does that mean if an Indian citizen has got reentry permit he cant apply for renewal of passport?

2. Anyone who had reentry permit and applied for renewal of passport can you please let me know
how you handled this issue?

3. Does that mean I can apply for reissue of passport only when the reentry permit expires?

4. My passport expires after the expiry of my reentry permit. Will it be a good idea to apply
for renewal of passport after I go back to USA and after reentry permit expires.

5. After my reentry permit expires passport is valid for just 1 month. I would like to travel to
USA 1 month before expiry of reentry permit(i,e. 2 month before my passport expires). Can there be
problem in port of entry in USA if validity of passport is just 2 month (although i have gc and valid reentry permit).

Please let me know your thoughts.

I don't think you can travel to US with a 2 month validity passport:[URL="http://www.cilawgroup.com/news/2011/02/23/passport-validity-and-entry-into-u-s-six-month-club-list-updated/"]

OP - you reading too much into the definitions. Even with a GC for ever, you will need an Indian PP. Just sign the self declaration and get your PP renewed.

correct me if I am wrong; is this any differnet than renewing the Indian passport,
while holding a valid visa (H1,H4,L1, etc...) which is a travel document too,
while being in India or outside.
