Why are so many people dying of dengue in India.


Its not confined to the economically challenged. In my extended family, one child a boy of 8 years passed away due to dengue. Recently another man, of 54, a family friend passed away due to the same I think.

I just read the news that says Mr.Yash Chopra who is a film producer died of dengue. he, I am sure lead an extremely luxuriant life not exposed to the furies of nature like Mango Man.

Isn't there something that can be done?

When people who are almost a decade past the expected lifespan for the country pass on, one might say...... well... s/he has had a good innings.... bless her/his soul.... and move on. It is very sad when children die.

If there is anything more 'classic' about the indian experience than this is pretty much it, the co-existence of uber wealth and confused westernization along with filth, poverty, disease and epidemics. I bet it is a story that pretty much repeats in most other third world countries globally but since we are Indians we can see this more. That Shinning India, still cant manage filth, disease and epidemic deaths and worst is for most part, it does not yet care or give importance. More news makes when Starbucks opens up in India and almost none when 50 people die of an epidemics. I think Yash Chopra's death will highlight how no once is immune to this, not even rich people and I hope not even the rich politicians, let this be a wake up call.

Why move one? Why should one not pause and wonder why is this disease afflicting so many and what should be done about it? The disease is almost an epidemic and more needs to be done.

Currently there is no medicine for Dengue. Lot of research is going on. The medicine may be commercially available by 2015.

Or, the humans will figure out how to neutralize the mosquitoes from carrying the dengue virus.

I wonder if airlines to India lose business in Oct-Dec, the post-monsoon season, because of this scare. Especially when they have foreign born young children in the household.
