A lot would depend on your skill set, expertise in the area. A thumb rule that I have seen in this forum is number_of_yrs * Some_Facotr (say 1.5 or 2) ...this is just that a rough number. In your case it comes up to 16L
In case of internal transfers, some say it should your USD * some_factor (say 0.4) ... that works out 26L. You are in NYC where cost of living is high, so your USD salary is higher ... so it might skew the numbers in your favor if you were to use this math.
You can consider 16L + some signing_bonus + variable + stocks (if any) + relocation and try negotiating the number. I am not trying to give you a number, just something to work with.
Have you tried contacting your friends to find out the latest trend? Also, use sites like glassdoor, zuby.in to find out market range.
