Dear R2I group members,
This is my first post to the forum. I love this forum. Whenever, I read any thread, I learn something new. I feel that I am connected to many of you. Well, the news from my side:
I lived in USA for 7 years, both me and my wife got our PhDs from here and now we are R2Iing on Jan 3rd. Many people asked me the reasons of R2I. Family is my first reason. I also feel that there is something more... a connection, a bond, a sense of freedom...in India. People may debate about it but I just want to share my feelings.
I am very positive and confident about my R2I. I want to make it successful. Here is my current status:
Got a job in Bangalore+ Purchased air tickets to India+ Sold Car and stuff in USA+ Sent books to India by USPS media mail
I will keep posting my R2I experiences on this thread.
Cheers
Conn2B

Lucky you, My best wishes to both of you!!! Can you please tell me how much it costed you by USPS media mail to sent them to Bangalore? I may have to do the same. I am planning to return to Bangalore after finishing my posdoctoral fellowship quite soon. Moreover can you please suggest me if you have came across any other economical ways to send clothes and books from here..It may be at the most 200 lb. Sky2C has given me a quote of $1050+..which I feel is bit too much.
Sincerely,
K

What is media mail? Is there an inexpensive alternate way to send clothes, books via sea cargo?

Why don't you carry it along as excess baggage and pay the 125 dollars excess baggage fee per bag.
Books - If they are technical books,You are better off buying them new in India. Children's books may be worth it..
Clothes - Certainly worth carrying along.
