In a little over an year on this forum, I have seen a few members who are long timers on this forum, but waiting for that "magical point" to happen. For each, its going to be different, but want to hear what the top item on your list is, that when satisfied would make you comfortable to R2I.

heehee... nice title for the thread...

A wife, who is "convinced enough" to come along for the scheme, has to be among the top. There are a few threads that keep coming back to that issue.

If the R2I-schemer would keep telling the wife that she is an "item", a "top item" and no less, could that help ?

None of the top items are either prompting us or preventing from r2i. We feel that we took a huge leap in moving abroad, without much thought on the implications. Now after years of getting used to the culture and changing dynamics, we now think that it would be a bigger leap to r2i. Nevertheless we have r2i on our minds as one of the top items.

Feel reasonably comfortable from a financial standpoint but higher education of kids is a big concern based on experiences of family members (nephew) and when seeking opinions from other firends.

My wife's friend will consider R2I only after her parents-in-law in India go to heaven. My wife will consider after our last kid enters college. I am like tlv.

In our case, the husband needs convincing. I hope wife offers top india items to persuade.

From purely my own perspective

1. Work culture - long office hours, no work life balance, servant type mentality even in senior roles
2. Traffic - dreadful to drive in metros
3. Ease of life on a day to day level - although keepings maids in India will balance this somewhat
4. No resource for hobbies! This includes lack of time and lack of finding similar type of people.

If I consider my wife's perspective, she was her own list of dislikes.
