Dilemma : When do we return?

Hi Everybody,
I have a dilemma here on my end.
We are planning to R2I in 2008. Our tentative date is May 2008 - just before schools begin session in India in June. I have two kids - older one will be going to 1st grade (6 years) and younger one will be going to UKG (4 years).
But our return is contingent on the sale of our house and a couple of other things here.
I have been trying to get applications for admissions for the kids in some schools in Bangalore.
NPS said that they have stopped issuing applications for year 2008 already!
DPS and Padma Seshadri said that they are issuing applications but the child and parent has to be present within the next one week for an interview/test. (which is not possible at this point!) Or when we return in May if they have a vacancy then they will consider...
My questions:
1. If our return gets delayed to later in the year - say October 2008 - then how would I handle the school situation? Does any school in Bangalore give mid-year admissions? What about the school here -would they give us a TC?
2. In May, do any schools provide admission at that time? Seems like all schools require us to be present there for the admission process... any way we can get admissions even before we go there ... from here?

Would you be willing to send your kid to any school that would give a mid-year admission? My friend is in the same boat, he is making a trip to India with his son for the sole purpose of school admission. Looks like you have a list of good schools that have a lot of demand. If I were you, I would make a couple extra trips. One for admission, one for the move, one to close the sale of the home, and related financial matters. This way I could plan much better. Given the state of the real estate market, it would be hard to plan with a big variable such as sale of house.

That seems like a really expensive option - going back each time for each step :emsmile: , though you're right! I'm not willing to settle for just any school for mid-year admissions..
And defnitely in today's housing market it is not wise to plan everything based on the sale of our home. But if need be, i would go ahead with the kids and my husband would follow suit later... that is definitely one of our options..
So when folks go back around October timeframe what do they do as far as school goes? I have seen so many of our people here R2I around October/Dec..
Does VIBGYOR in Bangalore have mid year admissions? I read in some post - something about that sometime back - but cannot seem to find that post now!

IF your move is dependent on the sale of your home in U.S, you may be better off selling your home before planning any move.
Unless you are willing to put your home on a fire sale or take a deep cut in price, 2008 will not be a good year if you are a seller.
And school thing in Bangalore is quite over-rated.. You can surely get a seat by shelling out some money. And there are many "so called" good schools now.

That gives us some hope on the school front! More and more i talk to the folks at various schools - I feel even more apprehensive... its hard getting things done from being so far!
And u're right - i guess one baby step at a time!

Schools here give you a TC whenever you want to move. Atleast that was the case in Illinois where my son was attending kindergarten in a public school.
In our case, our son got mid year admission in a smaller school and we are trying for admission from June in one of the more reputed schools. This is in coimbatore, so your situation might be totally different.
As far as selling your house is concerned, I would suggest trying to sell it as soon as possible. If it gets sold earlier than you plan on moving, you can move into a rental house for sometime.

if you have connections you can get in any school any time.:emwink:
one of my friend was able to put his kid in PSBB millenium(chennai) last month.
kid was in 3 std.
no interviews, written test etc just some high political influence.
