Lot of folks who are part of this forum disappear after the initial days :) ( Once the shipping questions, schooling questions, settling down questions are over) . Can't blame them. Life in India takes a toll on you.

Even though many folks do return, you will not find many posting in the forum once they are settled :). This is my opinion, don't know if it's correct.

This thread is a joke, a lot of people of return, and there a lot of people who have made it big India too. a dose realism and humility to accept Indian way of life is needed. There is absolutely no evidence that writing software code in California makes them raise kids any better.
pure misquoted mis represented stats.

Lakshya;621941Major reason for R2i in my view is no strong family tie in US, which I can understand.

If you have solid family tie in US, you will not think once about India, doesn't matter you have dollars in bank or not. R2i force will be much higher especially if you have strong family tie back in India, and parents are not flexible enough to move/visit US. That “I was left alone here & they all are enjoying” feeling will push you for your R2i….

The reason those Punjabis and Gujarati are not moving because their most of the family is in US, once you have that your mindset will completely change. You will still like India, but you will not settle there. May be 6 Mo in US and 6 Mo in India.

Once this typical age group on this forum will have grand kids in US, India will become a great tourist place for them and not home. Till that time keep visiting R2i forum…

Very true Lakshya. And thats the main reason our R2I failed... if we are not near family and not able to enjoy their company after moving to India, then whats the whole point? India is just another place, infact with a lot more challenges! Our Nostalgia and our ties to the family are perhaps the only 2 reasons. We can endure the traffic, the pollution, the corruption etc etc as long as we can fulfill our yearning to be with the family.

in US anything can happen anytime to us because we are always foreign ethnic people. i know one guy he is GC holder and some car accident happened ( not major accident), he hit from back side, other side person is american lady and she claimed too many things and ready to sue him with lot of issues, actually no severe physical damages happened but because of non sense rules here she exploited with lawyer help. anyone can sue anytime in US and there is no guarantee. because of sensitive rules and legals for small things people are suffering, specially immigrants are suffering with legals for small mistakes or things.
that desi person talked to insurance company but they cover only maximum limit, but the other person claimed more and now this desi person sent his savings to india and he moved his house onto his wife's name in US.

lot of complications in USA with legals for small mistakes, and foreign ethnic person always be in trouble if it is between foreigner vs. US citizen. this partiality is there.

Yes, on any forum there will be more consumers than producers. Life in India certainly takes a toll. My postings were very infrequent when in India. Not enough free time there compared to US.

US is a litigious country. It's not because we are ethnic or foreign, it's just the norm here. What if the scene reverses in your friend's case? There's some fraud in work place injury and auto, overall they are there to protect the weaker party.
In US, I recommend one to take an Umbrella Insurance policy $1M (costs ~$350/Year) or above.

I agree as a non citizen there are certain restrictions. OCI is not same as Indian citizenship but those are the conscious choices/trade offs we make.

People sue for a reason sometimes exaggerated, but these laws exist for the protection of the weaker/affected party. These laws help for better working conditions, accountability for professionals and doctors.

It's always prudent to take proper insurance covering one's assets and future earning potential. Then no one will take anything from you.

One can't move the assets for protection, after a lawsuit is filed. In fact, even if there is a likelihood of a lawsuit, it is too late for asset protection. Otherwise, it is called 'fraudulent conveyance' and the courts can reverse the transfer
