When you are making your r2i plans and solidifying them all excitedly; do your close relatives, family friends discourage you from not returning to India? They say these points often
1. Indian culture is far worse than western culture.
2. You cannot sustain the traffic and pollution. You will regret every single day.
3. Indians are far more selfish than Americans.
4. You can never work in IT - in an Indian based environment.
5. Kids are spoiled in India, and they have rote based learning, education is expensive.
6. Quite expensive. Not affordable and enjoyable.
7. Also hearing - Divorces are high in India, single mothers are there too and everywhere.
8. Food standards are below par. There is pesticides on vegetables and fruits. No clean air and fresh water.
And there are many many Indians that want to come to the US and settle down here. Thought India has grown so much developmentally with integrated townships having all amenities, NRI schools, diverse culture, and less power cuts. Why would people living in India always don't want NRI's to return? Thoughts?

1.
Indian culture is far worse than western culture.: Not true. You can experience good and bad in both.
2.
You cannot sustain the traffic and pollution. You will regret every single day. Not true. Good AC, with filters, and leafy trees in the yard can keep out the dust, noise etc.3.
Indians are far more selfish than Americans. Total Rubbish. Selfish - is US Government Policy. We invade, or bomb countries because we have our strategic interests in mind.4.
You can never work in IT - in an Indian based environment. Kwestionable contention. Many work in IT, more indians work in India-IT sector than they do in the US IT industry.
5.
Kids are spoiled in India, and they have rote based learning, education is expensive. False. In India you can take a rod to the child, and beat good sense into the brats. Not possible in America.
6.
Quite expensive. Not affordable and enjoyable. True anywhere in the world. When you got the money, you get the honey.
7.
Also hearing - Divorces are high in India, single mothers are there too and everywhere. If it is true all the desi men will be rushing off home, instead of trolling for flesh on the internet hook-up sites, and in American bars.
8.
Food standards are below par. There is pesticides on vegetables and fruits. No clean air and fresh water. BUT EVERYTHING TASTES GREAT.

They forgot to add few more things to this list. The most important one is the health care in India is expensive otherwise is very bad and most of the doctors try to cheat you especially people who are running private clinics and nursing home.
Rajradio is correct they are losers and stay away from them. The best way of staying away from these people is to stay put where ever you are but do not go to India.
I will give one more recent live example why you should not move to India. Most of them are big cheats and liars when comes to financial matters. It happened to me when I was trying to sell my properties in India and just last month my DIL parents sold their properties in Bangalore and they also said the very same thing that how people in India tell lies and cheat and very hard to trust.

Don't people who get on a plane, get there, get through immigration and customs, become people in India ?
:wink We have identified the problem; it is us.

I just posted something with my experience. If you love someone really deeply, would you listen to your parents and give up on that person or convince your parents about your choice? These major decisions should come from the heart and should not be over analyzed. Please read my thread and good luck with your move.

I totally agree with you. The decision to R2I must come from with in you regardless of any situations in India what so ever. If you sit down start analyzing/comparing/listing to other people opinions and than make your decision based on all these theories than r2I may not work for you. On contrary you must listen to your own gut feelings and make your own decisions. If you listen to people like me. I will say r2I is a bad move. Which may not necessarily be correct because if you had asked the same question to me 2 years before my answer was a big YES. Therefore do not listen to a third person. It is you and your spouse must be the one who needs to make the decision and your kids input also contribute to a great extent in making your final decision. The opinions of other people is not worth it because they are giving their input based on their own feelings and perspectives and may not always be right for you.

Thanks for the boost!! I agree, we go with our deep desire of what we want to do in the end. But it has become quite an adventure to cross the hurdles of ridicule. Almost always, they think we are foolish to be thinking or planning to return to India. They keep saying it is not worth the move and then we won't be successful and eventually move back to America. Sometimes its disturbing and overwhelming.
But it feels good if there are other people that encourage the r2i process and putting their perspective in it.
And I get deeply hurt when Indians in America talk bad about Indians and create a negative impression among foreigners about India or Indians. Part of the reason seems to be that!! Most of the settlers like to say - "Indian culture is worse than American culture now a days. It's better off we stay here and it seems safer."
To add to the list- I was told- Girls in India are less safe than in America. I know the culture has changed a bit for the past 15 years or so, but has it become that worse?

http://www.r2iclubforums.com/forums/...696#post623696Some say it has come from the head. Some others swear that it has to be the heart. For a few, the gut is the most dependable for any advice. Here is one that mentions the loins, but contends that it is the heart. However, when one does move, it is done with the feet.
Unless your whole body is into the thing,
the thing being whatever it is, you'd never enjoy it. And live to regret it. And "they" -- those nasty close relatives and friends -- will always sigh, and lament that you ought to have listened to their heads, hearts, guts, loins, or feet.
