Hi Friends,

Very nice forum. I am planning to move back to india by 2017. I am doing preparations like selling the US house by December, finalizing kids school, things to carry back and most important to sort out about job back in india. I have a query regarding working from india.

1) I am on H1B and working from home for my current employer from last 2.5 years. I am thinking to work for same employer from India as long as I am able to do that as that will help in smooth transition. I am sure many people must have gone through this situation. I want to know how the payroll thing works if you were on H1b in US. Do the company have to pay money in Rs. And how to approach the employer letting him know that I will be working from india and won't need h1b extensions anymore.

Any inputs would be appreciated.

Thanks,

my case is same. I used to work in US on H1B and got moved to India with internal transfer to the Indian office of US company. For this to happen, I informed about my move to US manager. he then informed about this to my India branch management. they said ok and discussed offer. luckily, my indian management was in US during that time frame, so I am able discuss face to face. then HR sent Indian offer letter with usual process like to accept the offer and inform them the joining date. I chose the joining to be after 15 days after my landing in India.
Actually my office is in Bangalore and I was in Hyderabad, so they gave remote option. on joining day, I went to Bangalore and completed joining formalities (like filling an application, showing originals and submitting photo copies of ur education and experience letters, etc.,) and they gave induction, opening salary account and gave me laptop and introduced to my manager. Came back to Hyd and started working.
Salary depends on ur experience and skill set and matching salaries in India for same experience level and skill set.
you can negotiate on moving expenses and other benefits.

I don't think u need to do anything special about H1B extn. unless ur there in US, why would they go for H1B extn.

if it's internal transfer with same company, I don't think there will be much hassle.

Thanks Miths for your response. My case is different because my company doesn't have any office in India so it could not be internal transfer. I would be working for US company from india.
