Hello,
Just wondering if we can revisit these numbers, both Corpus as well as monthly expenses to R2I in 2018 for a family of 4 in general. I have seen the posts and threads and it stopped at 2012 it seems. (Please correct me if otherwise). As the expenses in India keep on rising along with Inflation. Also, I have noticed the school feels are up significantly and reading some threads makes me feel like, school fees cost a major chunk of expenses. Please shed your thoughts.

From my experience, How much is enough? question is ambiguous and very loaded. More sensible question should be 'How much you can afford?'. I think it is round about way of asking forum dwellers how much they have made so far and 'Should I also hang in there for some more time to make that extra million?'

One thing to note is that this number hasnt changed much in last 4-5 years. Earlier when we would have this discussion, in 2012-13, everyone would say "but what about inflation". Looks like it has been pretty contained. Either this because of low fuel prices or because growth has plateaued, but 2012-2018 India looks similar to 2002-2018 US,where cost of living hasnt gone up astronomically high over a short period, like in india between 2002-2010.

It can be anywhere from 75k/month to 5 lacs per month. Depending on the lifestyle and personal circumstances of individual.

I check with my family back home(both parents and sister's place)and they still tell me they 20-30k is enough. When I said 1L it was really with a very good lifestyle. I would say for a typical middle class family it is between 50k to 1L. Anything above, 1L then there is no limit really, it could be anything.
This is not including rent and including schooling for 1 child. No maid, no driver, no Aircon, a small low maintenance hatchback car.

Even my expenses in SG is not that much. My rent is equivalent of 90k INR and my daughters school fees is 50k INR. My rest of expenses is equivalent of 1L INR.

How much is enough <> just expenses.
There are other factors as well.
I don't prefer to live a middle class life in India once I go back. Don't think its really worth it.
Also, quality Health care and labor is becoming expensive now a days

Thanks Guys for the input. Yes, it does depend on our life style and so many other factors. Just trying to see if things changed after 2012.
