Hi all
I am seriously considering R2Iing and was looking through the trove of experiences and stories people have posted here. I noticed that majority of the people were married and had a family, which is why personal and family are such strong reasons to come back. I am really curious to know experiences of people who are single, have lived in the US for >5 years, and have since R2Ied.
Personally, I am 32, single, and am looking to move back to Mumbai/Banglore. I have been pretty adjusted to the life in US (12 years in a few months), going out to clubs/lounges etc, and generally enjoying meeting new people, especially of the opposite sex. I would like to know people experiences on the social front (dont care which city we are talking about) around:
Have you found the night life / lounge scene comparable to your experience abroad? I know they have great places in India, but how is the experience there in terms of crowd, getting in etc?
Is there a particular type or age of crowd that you find at these places? Are there professionals in the 28+ age group, or mainly young whipper-snappers 1-2 years out of college?
On the dating front, is it easy, or rather possible to meet and date people especially in the late twenties/early thirties? I ask this because dating paradigms have changed a lot in India than when I was there , but not sure to what extent?
Coping with family pressures to "settle down" given that all your other friends are in blissful marital happiness.
I would appreciate it if people could share any thoughts/experiences/stories realted to above or other they want to share..I hope there are single R2Is out there.
Thanks in advance

Since you are in an outlier category (Single R2I), I wonder why are you thinking of returning to India?
It might be tough to continue the same trend with 32 years on your shoulder in India :). I was just reading the other thread mentioning that people in mid 30s were firmly placed in uncle and aunt category :):) I am sure you can go to night clubs along with your younger colleagues but my gut feeling is you will be firmly placed in "mamu" or "kaka" category. Ofcourse, you have to patiently wait for early 30's single lady :):). Take it easy.

OP,
contrary to what you think you are not alone. In fact you are the prefered standard. The person who goes abroad to study, then works for a few years and returns home. I have personally know two close cases who were identical to you, both r2ied at 33. One got married at 37 and the other is still enjoying single life at 36.
The metros have a very vibrant single life especially as salaries are where people can easily move out of home and rent etc. However a 33 yr old will be old at a Disc but more common at a pub.
Something else I noticed is that do to large white collar immigrants in metros, there is less phobia as far as Dating, smoking, drinking etc

ha ha...thanks for the rude awakening to my "kaka" status. I am sure you are right about that. And I dont mean to imply that I want to go to discos, and dance with young women, or even go out partying every night. But, more like going to a nice pub/lounge with friends either from work or otherwise.
I guess what i was getting at also was about making new friends...Again, the main way that people make new friends in the US is meeting people at bars etc. When I was in India, i didnt face that option as I had my friends from school/college, most of whom are now not in India :). Hence, the question.
About why I want to R2I.. its because of several reasons: (i) to be in a exciting economy and be part of something great hopefully, (ii) be closer to family, (iii) Have an opportunity to make a difference to resolving India's socioeconomic issues.
I realize that life in India will be different, I am trying to guage how different.

bidyourtime, we need to talk. I'm the author of the above mentioned thread, and I'm still undecided whether to move to US for a better dating life coz most people cruelly bash me saying I don't get girls becaus of my personality not because of the country.
