If a man can, why cannot a woman? Family is responsibility of both. How they divide up the responsibilities is up to the couple.

One of the first comments in CNN said..
[QUOTE]This article is absurd. CNN is trying to compare this female that is able to spend 60,000 for lunch on a whim to the average person? No.

Marissa can afford a wet nurse and a nanny. I doubt she'll be out of work for long. The average working woman, however, can not afford such niceties.
Her pay package from Yahoo was shown as $59 Million (this is outside her networth from Google which is in excess of $300 million). Some of us (who fall in majority working women's average worth) will be glad if our life long earnings can top $2million !! My opinion is , she is not a poster woman for majority of working women's problems..For majority of women, working outside home to pay bills is a necessity and not a choice.

According to me when a women concentrates more on career cannot give family a good life. As it will be very difficult to balance.

Would women want to try out a career if family life is staid and boring ? We have been told that employment could be exciting:
vasu123;622243This is the problem sending wife to work. Wife might be good lady but people in offices always try to flirt, they don't even care whether she is married or single. They try all kind of tricks to turn her on and change her way of thinking. Desi staff and white guys too do same flirting. but lady can avoid and control these but in some conditions mistake happens.

Quick answer is No. That's the truth. You have to give something to gain something. No pain No gain .. I can go on..

I will give an example - We had parent conferences today at school. One of my son's friend's mom who is a senior manager in a big company messaged asking about conferences(in the morning) . Apparently she has missed the email and hasn't got an appt for the same. Long story short, it's really hard to keep everything together in both ends unless you can outsource most daily chores(Like Marissa Meyer).

In my career, I am happy with the growth for the effort I am putting. I have taken flexible work options so that I am available for my kids and family . In technology industry if you are a women and ready to put 150% you can go places now a days, unfortunately I can't afford to,given my DH is in same field and it's on me to take care of the family ,kid's education, volunteering etc. Everyone has different priorities - to me my kids remembering mom's food , mom taking care of them when they are sick while staying true to my company that gives my paycheck , yes it's a day to day struggle but achievable. Have a satisfying career and be available for family , totally possible. But have a flying career and be there for Family , I don't think so.

To summarize it would be difficult if not impossible. Needs a lot of help and support from her worse half. Also one has to select the kind of jobs/companies that offer lot of flexibility to continue to grow. For people especially in IT, it's good news. With increasing telecommuting and work from home jobs this is becoming more manageable.

#16 okonomi,

It's not impossible. For obvious biological reasons like making time to have and rear babies, it could be a slower process.
Ultimately, it's all about being satisfied. If you are satisfied with your balance, power to you, if you are not, do something about it till you feel satisfied
