I really dont remember how I ran into the old MSN forum, but I think it was around 2005. Until 2004, I was a very active member on immigrationportal.com, and I guess after I got my Green card I was looking for some other place online to regularly hang out, and that's probably how I found the old site.

I believe my ID on the MSN forum was "R2Iwhen". RRK & Desi, I dont know if those records still exist, but is there a way to find out when a member joined the old site?

Lakshya;157128Well for MoU or anything close to that we have "Akshaya Patra" thread. So won't go there.

Inshah Allah we will meet in Ahmedabad and Treat on me in this revolving hotel call Patang.

I visited A'bad about 18 years back for a few days. I ate at this place ( I hate calling it a restaurant) called vishala. The ambience and food was beyond belief. I have never come across another place like this ever. Some one tried copying it in Hyd, but did not succeed as much.

Hyd.

A friend suggested this site when I mentioned my R2I dilemma. She was very impressed (and so was I) with some blogs that gave interesting details and experiences of members (thanks to member pazham).

I was researching if 401Ks made sense for folks with R2I intent and google pointed me to this forum or one of the its previous incarnations.

BTW, what happened to http://groups.msn.com/R2INRIFinanceAndInvestments

In many posts of R2IClubforums, I see many useful links to the posts of R2INRIFinanceAndInvestments forums but they don't seem to exist now. It would be useful to access them.

MSN Pulled the plug. They decided to close all forums and decided to get out of this groups business.

Hence we moved all our old posts to multiply.

http://r2iclub.multiply.com/journal

I just checked even they have deleted several posts. But one can still see some old posts.
I know some members did not like the new site and didn't want to move. They wanted to stay in the old forum, that includes our P_Jani and several others who are active now here..

Little we know at that time, MSN would close all those forums just after few months. Looking back, it was one of the good timely decisions we made.

A good friend of mine decided to go back to India at the end of 2006. He was US-pro, and always talked great things about USA. For him, India was a third world country. At the same time, I had inkling that he was not happy with how his immigration journey and hence career is progressing. But I always thought he would be patient, and make it through all the immigration paperwork, and office politics. So when he gave me the news that he landed a golden opportunity in India, and actually going for it, I was aghast.

I was doing a routine visit to India grocery store on the weekend with my wife. As usual she was shopping, and I was gazing at stardust magazine in the corner. After I had enough, my attention was captured by not-so-sexy India Abroad newspaper. That was year-end edition, and it had big section on returning Indians. There were a number of stories of real people - who made it big in USA, and returning. Some who were thinking that returning back is the way to make it big. There was one radio jockey, and a number of engineers. Stood out was the photo of RRK with his wife & daughter. The man was founder of some website, he had a satisfactory smile on his face, and the article had an URL for the site. For the first time in life, I paid for India Abroad.

The URL was for MSN forum. I signed up for both forums - R2I and Finance. In a month, I had to sign up for this forum. But the wealth of information was amazing. I recommended the site to my R2Ier friend, and he learnt some useful things. In 2007, two more friends departed for India, and I realized everyone is following this site. My interest kept on increasing - not in the forum, but in R2I itself.

I think subconsciously I started wanting to R2I. I am not sure whether I was following my friends, or this site. But sometimes I knew more about what takes to R2I than the real R2Iers. Friends and colleagues have kept returning to India over all these years, and whenever I recommended this forum to them, it turned out they already knew it. Till now, I have not came across any R2Ier who have not visited this forum before R2Iing.

We had our baby in 2007. In post pregnancy, my wife craved for India. Came recession of 2008, and USA was enough for me too. The plans to R2I start becoming strong. I already knew what all needs to be done, it was matter of making and following plan. So here I am now. Completed 40 social security credits, got USC & OCI for all 3 of us, got job in India with some networking, and flying in 2 weeks from now. Sometimes a webiste can take you to places!

Gurusw,

Very interesting story ! I am really happy to read your post and r2i experience.

Yes, I remember the Indian abroad article. it was the photo we have taken in San Antonio Hindu Temple during our visit to Sea World/San Antonio.
