R2I from Calgary , Canada to Hyderabad . June 2010

Post by drprab »

[INDENT]HI Folks,
The day has come for us to move back home. So thought I start a "blogeish" description as things progress for my move.
Moving from Calgary , Canada . To Good old Hyderabad , India
What Have i done so far -
- Wife/Me/Daughter all Canadian citizens. Got our OCI so good to go.
- Boxed all our stuff over a three month period just need to pack the furniture and some small stuff. I am expecting the movers to pack my Furniture.
Have created an excel sheet with all dimensions of the boxes and furniture.
Will put the house for sale as soon as the furniture leaves.
SO Here is the story
- Called Universal relocations. Spoke with Manisha.
- She seems nice and informed me that she needs atleast 20 days notice for 20 ft and 10 days for smaller. Good to know. So adds another 20 days to my plans. I explained her my move and got her email address . Will send her XLS worksheet and wait for the quote. She also informed me that it would take about 60 days for the shipment.
- Called 21st century and left a message in Yogesh yesterday. Spoke to Yogesh about half hr ago. Very friendly guy. Same time frame for door to door and he informed me that pickup would depend on the size of the load. We discussed insurance option as mine will be a mixed bag .Self packed and professionally packed
Called SKY2C - Left a message with Anil Tandon ( June 2 2010) . Anil Called me back and most of the information is same.

Looks like I may have to get a 20 ft cont.. I will post once I get back the quotes. Will be sending all of them my sheet and wait for response.
I will update as an when I get more info. Hopefully what i am doing will help folks to plan. BTW i read thru all the reviews on movers and relied on people who have been posting on this site. Did not pay too much weight for reviews from folks who just logged to post the review. I am not saying they are fake, just not adding any weight.

All the best for the move. I used Sky2C and Anil Tandon was very helpful. They did a great packing job and their broker/customs person in Kolkata was also good with the paper work.

Would you mind sharing with us your background (education, work area) and where (do not need specifics) you will work in Hyderabad, if it is the city of your families and so forth. May help prospective R2I also if you could write about the motivation to R2I - the reason I ask is that I know Calgary well (I lived in Edmonton for 6 years) and loved the area - the proximity of Calgary to the Canadian Rockies is great. Why would one leave Calgary?

Cheers
